1974 Dodge Challenger Rallye Hardtop This would be the last year of the E-body Challenger. For 1974, the Challenger was essentially unchanged from the 1973 models. It still had all the same features and options and you could still get the Rallye package. The Rallye package still included the side scoops, the tape stripes, two hood scoops, special wheels, and F70x14 raised white letter tires. Oldride.com 16,437 two door hardtops were produced in 1974 with about 6,000 equipped with the 360ci four barrel. For consignment, a 1974 Dodge Challenger Rallye hardtop showing 67,322 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This car is a highly optioned example with its numbers matching drivetrain and the motor has been stroked to a consignor stated 410 cubic inches. Exterior Painted racing mirrors, fender mounted turn indicators, and roof drip moldings are just some of the options present on this Bright Red Challenger which was repainted with two stage application in January of 2022. Longitudinal black stripes emit from the simulated louvers and trail rearward in an expanding strobe-like presentation. A full black vinyl roof tops the car and the rear fascia contrasts with silver paint backing the quad tail lights in which the pairs cant in separate directions within their bezels. 14-inch Mopar Road wheels are the ideal wheel and carry 205/70R14's with the letters out. The paint is immaculate, the vinyl top is outstanding, and the metalwork including emblems is just about mint. We note a ding in one of the wheel's trim rings as the singular exterior imperfection. Interior The box for the console was checked and surrounds the always amazing pistol grip Hurst shifter, and it matches the faceplate of the instrument cluster where the 150mph speedometer and tachometer sit side by side with the condition gauges and a racy clock. Not to be outdone, the molded plastic door panels are also accented with a woodgrain trim piece. Black vinyl bucket seats with textured and pleated inserts are in great condition and conditions and material are mirrored on the rear bench. Challenger is embroidered in red on the carpeted mats that sit over the black carpet for a nice complement and a tidy headliner caps this spotless interior. Save some wax for the trunk because the red paint there is as showy as the body panels. Drivetrain Show quality prevails in the bay where the light of day reveals a blue painted numbers matching 360ci V8 engine, now a 410ci stroker according to our consignor, and it's topped with a Brawler 4-barrel carb over a Weiand intake manifold. Bolted behind it is the numbers matching A833 4-speed manual transmission which sends power to the 8 ¾ inch rear with 3.55 gears. Patriot headers begin the exhaust process and like everything else in the engine bay, you could eat off them. But wait until they cool down. Undercarriage It's not showy but it is relatively clean, especially the knuckles and wheel components where power brakes are found as front disc and rear drum. There's no rust of any kind and outside of the undercoating, there are a few drops of oil on the pans and some on the rear differential which may be originating from the seal. FlowMaster mufflers are onboard the dual exhaust which terminate at rectangular chrome tips that fit into cutouts of the rear valance with perfection. Suspension consists of torsion bars up front and leaf springs in the rear. Drive-Ability There's nothing quite as inviting as a pistol grip shifter and why this design was ever ended is beyond us, but off we go in this prized Mopar, around our test loop and feeling every bit of the 410 under the hood. The car tracks straight and true, handles well, and looks damn good doing it. But not all is sunshine and roses as we note the horn, clock, and radio not working. The right turn signals oddly only work with the headlights off. Beyond those non deal breakers, all other functions operate on this special car, and we gently take aim at t
