61,799 miles
1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Hardtop Regular Production Option, (RPO), is a three digit standardized code used by General Motors to designate vehicle options and modifications. Very few of these codes end up in the actual name of a car, but there are some exceptions and Z28 is the most notable, indicating Special Performance Package. Corvette's Z06 is another RPO that's become part of the common name of the performance version, and L78, slightly more obscure, represents a particular big block. Z71 on the side of a modern Chevy truck is an RPO and translates to Truck Sports Package. For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 showing 61,800 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This one has a factory replacement block in the form of a 1967 302ci Z28, along with fuelie heads and a Muncie M20 manual.  Exterior We were hard pressed to find any flaws on the two stage Fathom Green paint that covers this car. Painted white stripes travel from the nose and over the cowl hood, broken by the roof, then reemerging on the trunk lid and over the spoiler. The chrome bumpers as well as the door handles, window trim, and side mirror are in fantastic condition while additional metal trim includes the rain gutters, clean and clear, wheel opening trim that shows no dings, and the rocker panel trim, also nice. 1969 saw the introduction of the quarter panel decorative vents and they stand out against the dark green paint on newer quarter panels while 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels continue the consistently good metal on the car and the original twin tailpipes are icing on the cake. Interior Both door panels in black plastic and vinyl and tight and clean, as are the high backed bucket seats for the driver and front passenger and the back bench. Circle gauges and a clock are situated in square housing while a simulated wood strip underlines the gauge cluster, dresses up a basic AM radio, and occupies the center band of the steering wheel. The AC branded gauges include a 120mph speedometer and tachometer, augmented by the quad gauge package in the center console. Woodgrain reappears on the shifter housing where we find a white knobbed Hurst shifter and the shift pattern plaque all in clean condition. Low pile black carpet covers the floor and along with the stitched headliner, present in very good condition. The trunk is shrouded by a green plaid vinyl period mat and houses a spare and jack. Drivetrain Clean conditions prevail under the hood where the 302ci V8 resides with a 4-barrel 1968 Z28 Holley carburetor. It's mated to an M20 4-speed manual transmission that routes power the rear 12 bolt with 4.10 gears and Positraction. Our consignor has the original heads for the car and they will be included, but one has a crack.  Undercarriage Super clean underneath with dual exhaust taking center stage and flowing through a stock style transverse muffler that gives way to polished tailpipes. Power brakes are supplied as front discs and rear drums and suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs with traction bars in back. We note some residual oil on the pan and a drop on the transmission as well as some sling by the front U-joint.   Drive-Ability This fine green machine starts up without hesitation and offers a hearty exhaust note as we row the Muncie onto the test loop where the engine runs well, idles smooth, and provides plenty of giddy up. During our ride on relatively flat tarmac, we note the right rear tire rubs over some of the bumps. The reverse lights and radio are not working, and the fuel light is on even as the gauge reads ¾ of a tank. Beyond that, this is a well sorted Z28 where everything else works as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. We've said it before, don't rest on your laurels if an X33 '69 Z28 is on your wishlist. They
