1955 Triumph TR2 Roadster The 1955 Triumph TR2 is a quintessential British sports car that captured the hearts of driving enthusiasts with its blend of performance, style, and affordability. Born in the post war era, a time when Britain was eager to export and car enthusiasts craved open top motoring, the TR2 emerged as an icon. Between 1953 and 1955, a total of 8,636 TR2 were produced and this particular example was imported from the Netherlands in 2022. Exterior There are two colors that rise to the top of desirability for roadster, British Racing Green and red, in this case, a bright Cherry Red that adorns this classic and makes it an instant head turner. When you do turn your head, you might not recognize that face, unique to early Triumphs and presenting with a wide eyed, open mouthed face, pleasingly cartoonish and welcoming. From there, things sweep rearward including the dramatic front fender that is articulated as it dips all the way through the door at a point when the top of the door is about 2 feet from the ground. The rear fender mirrors the angles and the windscreen rakes at a dramatic angle, rare at a time when even roadsters kept a more upright posture. The 15-inch red wheels carry some of the only contrasting material with polished hubcaps that pick up on the metal gravel guards, chrome bumpers and bumperettes. The paint is in good condition with imperfections noted with paint runs, uneven filler on the bottom edge, minor bubbles, chips, and scratches. Interior Black vinyl door panels line the inner doors and are in nice shape, each with a pull strap for closing/opening and an opening for storage. The two part bomber seats are stitched black vinyl with cream colored piping and present in decent condition with no tears. The banjo style steering wheel shows some patina and fronts a smooth black dash housing circular gauges with domed glass covers and chrome rims. The center of the dash contains more gauges along with black knobs and lights and overall the dash is a bit dusty but will clean up easily. The same with the black carpet below that surrounds the hump mounted shifter in a black rubber boot. The trunk is lined with a mat and is currently housing the side windows and tonneau cover. Drivetrain A driver quality 1991cc inline four cylinder fills the engine bay and wears two 1-barrel carburetors. It's mated to a 4-speed manual with overdrive that routes power to 3.70 gears in back. If showing this car is of interest, some careful detailing in the engine bay will really bring it to life, esthetically speaking. Undercarriage Driver quality here as well with minimal surface rust, some road grime, and a film of oil on the pans and rear differential. No invasive rust is noted. The single exhaust runs diagonally across the bottom, threading the X-frame just before entering a stock style muffler then terminating via a chrome tip in back. Drum brakes are on all four wheels and suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back. Drive-Ability The spry little roadster does what Triumphs are known for, namely handling well, providing a ride that feels faster than the speedometer indicates, and emitting a racy exhaust note that's distinctive for sub 2 liter engines. The center brake light works but the two original brake lights don't, and all other functions on the car operate as they should.
