Seller's Notes

1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible The sales brochure in 1969 claimed that the car had a gauge for everything but your blood pressure. Tachometer, ammeter, oil pressure, sweep second rally clock, fuel gauge, mileage and trip odometer, warning lights for seat belts, headlight position and door ajar. The center console houses fingertip controls for the heater, defroster, radio, vents, ashtray, cigarette lighter, shift lever and parking brake, plus an engine rating plate and softly glowing space age fiber optics that monitor outside running lights. Color keyed deluxe push button seat belts and inertia action shoulder belts, on the coupe, retract out of the way when not in use. From slimline bucket seats, drivers enjoy just the right feel of the new competition steering wheel with a resilient rim. For consignment, a 1969 Chevrolet Corvette convertible showing 82,352 miles, but the true miles are unknown. What is known is that this is a numbers matching example, both engine and transmission. So, we're going to write fast but you'll need to read faster. '69's have a tendency of disappearing quicker from our Hallowed Halls than corn through a goose. Exterior Eight colors were available in 1969 and this came with paint code 988, otherwise known as Burgundy Poly, and it's a great color for the car. A deep dark cherry that helps accentuate the iconic features such as the side gills, the sculpted hood, and chrome bumpers that cling to the ends. It's also a great complement to the tan canvas top and works well with the black vinyl covered accessory hardtop as well. It colors the coke bottle body as it arches over the 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels and the gently molded rear spoiler that ends up flaring the rear fascia around circle taillights and the Corvette lettering between them. Black painted side pipes practically disappear on the rockers. Remarkably, the exterior color also has the ability to hide small infractions and at some distance, the paint looks excellent. Up close, we note scratches, cracks, haziness, chips, touched up panels, and even bubbling all throughout. Interior Buyers could select from eight interior colors too and the original owner checked the Saddle box for an interior with brown tones that is a fine choice. It begins on the plastic molded door panels with perforated vinyl inserts to dress things up a bit. The vinyl bucket seats, thin and flat by today's standards, are sporty for the time and include head restraints and chrome knob adjusters at the base. The steering wheel is also consistent with the times, large and thin with finger grooves molded into the plastic rim. There's some chipping on the paint of the column and it leads to textured plastic surrounding the black faced gauges including a speedometer that reaches 160mph. Black plastic surrounds the vast gauge package in the center stack which is followed by an AM/FM/Cassette radio, indicator lights, then the center console itself with some typical patina. This has the vent controls, shift diagram, spec plate, and of course, the shifter itself, in this case, a Hurst. Tan carpet covers the floor and the rear cargo area in good condition. Drivetrain Finned valve covers top the clean, numbers matching 427ci L36 V8 under the hood, sporting a 4-barrel carburetor and mated to the numbers matching Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission sending power to the heavy duty rear axle with 3.36 gears and Positraction. Undercarriage Clean conditions are found underneath but plenty of patina in the form of surface rust and residual oil. There are also a few rough fiberglass repairs noted. The dual exhaust comes from the engine and turns out to the sides almost immediately, quickly finding side pipes. Disc brakes are utilized on all four wheels and suspension consists of coil springs up front and on the back, a fully independent suspension with frame anchored differential unit and transverse leaf springs help keep the rear planted.
