The 2024 Kia EV9 received the 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The EV9 received ''Good'' ratings in the updated side-impact tests and in front crash tests, including the small overlap front and original moderate overlap front tests. It also received an ''Acceptable or Good'' rating in the pedestrian front crash prevention evaluation, and all trim levels have headlights that are rated ''Good.''

This Kia is equipped with a 10.9-kW onboard charger, and the EV9's charge port is located next to the passenger-side taillight. The quickest way to charge the EV9 is by plugging in at a DC fast-charging station. This is known as a Level 3 charge, and it can boost the battery from a 10% to an 80% charge in as few as 24 minutes (20 minutes for the 76.1-kWh battery). Plugging in at a 240-volt outlet or a Level 2 public charging station can fully charge the EV9 in about 7 to 9 hours.
