104,217 miles
1963 Ford Galaxie 500 2 Door Sedan When you think about it, there are a number of cars named after celestial objects. Taurus is a constellation, Nova is a star, Subaru is a star cluster, Apollo, Aries, Comet, Eclipse, and of course, one of the most common of the 1960's, the Galaxie by Ford! For consignment, a 1969 Ford Galaxie 500 2 door sedan with a title verified 104,217 actual miles. This garage kept beauty is a stunning example of 60's design, clean inside and out, and it's going to make Main Street cruising an absolute blast for its next owner. Exterior Remember when earth tones were the trend? Well, here's one of the lighter hues and now is present with two stage quality as the Sandshell Beige is without flaws on this car. Designer thought the slab sided 500 needed some dress up trim and so obliged with a polished spear that starts on the door and circles a hairpin turn in back followed by the trim running parallel and extending over the front fender. Your eye is also captured by the series of vertical trim pieces in back and also by the broad band that anchors the wide C-pillar. The grille is mimicked by the latch panel trim between the distinctive Ford round tail lights with their crosshair accenting. Half moon headlight covers are flashy and the yellow fog lights on the bumper are a nice addition. 15-inch chrome steel wheels perpetuate the theme and they're wrapped in wide white wall tires, partially obscured in back by the streamlining fender skirts. It's all very nice and ready for show and go. Interior Three shades of brown, including the beige, line the door panels which are enhanced by the aluminum insert housing the armrest. The split bench sports a handsome design with brown velour like cloth bordered with beige vinyl and formalized with accent buttons and polished framing. The rear bench mirrors the materials and design and the sidewalls continue the pattern of the door. Our steering wheel is wrapped in a saddle vinyl cover and leads to the symmetrical dash that puts two round gauges to the sides of the horizontal speedometer. The metallic mid panel takes in knobs, vent levers, an AM radio, an old school liquid compass, and the glove box. There's also an AM/FM/Cassette radio mounted under the dash just over the brown carpet that covers the floor nicely along with some Mustang rubber mats. The light headliner up above shows some age with a tear or two, and the trunk is covered with a plaid vinyl mat and is in good condition. Drivetrain Some bright red elements brighten up the clean engine bay housing a 260ci V8 with a 2-barrel carburetor and rated at 164 horsepower. It is backed by a Ford-O-Matic 2-speed automatic transmission sending power to the Ford 9 in back with 3.25 gears. Undercarriage Driver quality underneath with some expected surface rust, some oil sling, and some grime build up on front componentry. The only rust we note is on both of the stock style mufflers which have rusted through, and they are part of the dual exhaust system that terminates with chrome tips emerging out back. Power drum brakes are equipped at each wheel and suspension is standard with coil springs up front and leaf springs in back. Drive-Ability A twist of the key and the small block came to life. On our test track the car displayed adequate acceleration, good handling and spot on braking. All the attributes you want in a cruiser. That said, functional items all operate with the exception of the clock. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Here we have a spectacularly clean Galaxie with a correct replacement engine. This one is ready to cruise and has many years of providing true classic car joy to the person willing to take it on. In terms of cosmetic beauty, it's out of this world! 3G61F138086 3-1963 G-Chicago, IL Assy Plant 61-Gala
