1987 Buick Regal Grand National Up until about 1982, Buick Regals were relegated to a seasoned customer base. Simple transportation with classic GM styling was familiar to loyalists and a great seller. Then in 1982 a special edition of the Regal was created to commemorate Buick winning at the NASCAR Grand National race and create a buzz to stimulate sales. Most of them had a normally aspirated 4.1 liter V6 that put out 125 horsepower, but they would set in motion the return of the Buick muscle car and the eventual growth of the customer base and a younger audience. For consignment, a 1987 Buick Regal Grand National with a title verified 13,242  actual miles. Grand Nationals were rated at 245 horsepower from the factory, and quick by any standard. This example has been modified to produce a proven 433.7 horsepower and if a GN can be a sleeper, this is it! Exterior No need to embellish the name. The paint here is called Black and Grand Nationals are synonymous with black because the grille, bumpers, headlight bezels, tail light surrounds, and door handles are as black as the paint. Right angles of the standard Regal remains, though the body is embellished with a front chin spoiler and a subtle rear spoiler, the front one serving as a funnel to collect air for the intercooler. The bumper fillers go bad even on low mileage cars and this one will need front and back replacements which, fortunately, are available in the aftermarket. The 15-inch Grand National wheels are in very nice condition and hold staggered size tires with slightly wider but lower tires in back. Other than the fillers, the only imperfection is some tarnishing of the Grand National fender emblems. The rest of the car is in very nice condition. Interior Standard GN configuration inside with gray cloth inserts on black bottomed doors. Black and gray cloth buckets are now legendary and contain the Turbo 6 logo embroidered on the headrest and both front and back are in great shape. Gray leather wraps the thick steering wheel and it's also in good condition and the standard speedometer is in place and as a holdover from the tame Regals, only goes to 85mph! The boost and RPM's are indicated with two light bars that light up like Battlestar Galactica when the car is on. This car wears an added boost gauge on the A-pillar and oil and temp pair in the center console, one of the most common interior mods you'll see on GN's. The center stack contains the heater/AC controls and Delco AM/FM/Cassette radio. A spotless center console houses the gray T-handle shifter while low pile black carpet was standard and protected here with black carpeted mats. This solid roof car has a soft gray headliner with no sagging or indentations while in the trunk, the correct black low pile carpet mat and the space saver spare is in its factory position, cardboard cover is present. Drivetrain So far, the exterior and interior haven't hinted at any major modification. But here we have a fully built 4.1 liter stroker V6 with a XFI firmware upgrade, 67mm CEA turbo, billet front, center, and rear main caps, a stroker kit, K1 billet rods, a 4340 steel 3.625 stroker crank, 4340 H-beam forged rods, diamond forged pistons, and file fit rings. The heads are ported and wear MLS head gaskets while the injector ports are now filled with 83lb/hr units. It's all mated to a 200R4 4-speed automatic transmission that sends power to a 10 bolt rear with 3.42 gears and Positraction. Did we mention the bay is clean and includes some polished air pipes? Undercarriage Super clean conditions prevail underneath where dual exhaust runs through Hooker Aerochamber mufflers and exit in stock fashion behind each rear wheel. The power master cylinder is still on board assisting the disc brakes up front and the drums in the rear while suspension consists of coil springs in front and rear with a 4 link in back. Drive-Ability We've had the pleasure of representing many GN's at the Mall, and thi
