1972 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe When you slip behind the wheel of a sports car like Corvette, we think you have the right to accept three things: instrumentation, comfort and convenience. 1972 Corvettes provide all three. Get seated and look around. Immediately behind Corvette's steering wheel, recessed deeply in circular pods, you'll see Corvette's speedometer and tachometer. If you're getting the idea that Corvette's standard interior is well stocked, you're getting the right idea. From the 1972 sales brochure For consignment, a 1972 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title verified 49,442 actual miles. This has a matching numbers drivetrain and lots of recent work done by our consignor, who states he is the third owner. Exterior Repainted in Black to make it a black on black car, the inky color covers the sweeping lines, coke bottle curves, and iconic fender vents of the Corvette well. The shark includes the hidden headlights that rest behind a metal grated grille surrounded by chrome that connects with a wraparound chrome bumper. Rising fenders border the hood which leads to a raked windshield that forces air to flow over the top and onto the flat decklid that terminates with a subtle integrated wing. One of the best views of the car is the rear where the split bumper underlines the dual tail lights and hovers over square exhaust tips fitted to gaps of the rear valance and above it all, flying buttresses hug the rear window. 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels on the car are wrapped in 215/70R15's with a mid 2023 date code. Imperfections includes some areas of wavy paint and through the windshield, we note some significant rot on the A-pillars.   Interior As the outer door rises to meet the shoulder line of the car, it creates a car that leans back, and the features of the black vinyl and plastic door panels follow those lines in slanted geometric patterns and both are in nice shape. Black bucket seats have tall backs and are flat by today's sportscar standards, and clean in their presentation. The 3 spoke steering wheel fronts a column that leads to a simple dashboard with two important dials, speed and RPMs. Less immediate but just as important information is conveyed via a 5 gauge pod located in the center stack. One of those is a clock which will only confirm that time flies when you're in a classic Corvette! A newer AM/FM radio forms the connection to the center console, in excellent condition and housing the shifter in a plastic casing, often the site of wear but in this case, looking good. Low pile newer black carpet coats the footwells and the rear storage area where some external speakers have been added. Drivetrain Under the hood and presenting cleanly is the numbers matching 350ci V8, rebuilt and according to our consignor, now putting out 300 horsepower. It has an AVS2 4-barrel carburetor and an aluminum intake along with headers bolted to the side. It's mated to the numbers matching TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear axle with 3.08 gears and Positraction. Undercarriage Generally clean underneath with some typical patina and surface rust. We find some rust through on the body panel that connects to the inner rocker and some fluid on the transmission pan. Newer dual exhaust flow through stock style mufflers via a 2.5 inch system and exit dramatically through the square tips. Disc brakes are found at all four wheels and suspension consists of Corvette's complex system of a frame mounted differential, tubular axle drive shafts, transverse strut rods, torque control arms, and transverse leaf springs. Drive-Ability The 350 starts right up and we move the sporty shifter to Drive and take this black beauty around the test loop. It handles like a Vette and by that, we mean with lots of fun! Plenty of power from the V8, a nice auditory hum, and straight tracking. We note the radio and wipers are not working but all other functions operate as they should. While Clas
