19,213 miles
This car is being marketed for Roadster Salons lead mechanic, the well known R.D. from Sicily. It is his personal vehicle with documented low miles in the teens. The 1978 is the last year for the 1300/4sp original drive line combination before it was replaced in 1979. For collectors, it is arguably the best version of the original design offering from Bertone. Those who are unfamiliar with this lovely sports car may confuse the X/19 with the Pontiac Fiero and Toyotas MR2. The Fiat X/19 was actually their inspiration, and made its debut in 1974. It was the first reasonably priced Italian mid-engine sports car sold in the US. The Fiat X/19 was extremely light and handled beautifully, whether on the street or track. In racing gear, the X/19 regularly embarrassed more powerful competition due to its advanced steering, suspension and braking. The X/19 also featured an innovative removable hard top which spanned the distance between the front window frame and integrated targa bar. This gave the car a strong body structure that had fewer rattles than other contemporary convertibles. The top stows easily in the front trunk area. The added rigidity provided a measure of safety for this type of car not found in British competition like the MGB, Midget and Triumph Spitfire. For its day. the X/19 was a technical marvel--and gave owners a glimpse of what it was like to own a Ferrari for a small fraction of the price. Practical features include generous front and rear storage compartments, for wheel disc brakes, and a real full size spare neatly hidden behind the passenger seat. This particular car was maintained to a fanatical standard with no delayed maintenance. Since purchased by R.D in 2012, the car has never seen rain or water of any kind. It has absolutely zero rust and the paint is completely original. No significant dings or scratches that betray the impression that this car is virtually brand new. No reported accidents or any evidence of mishaps. This car is---a complete unicorn with no comps currently in the market. Perfect for daily drivers, collectors, and vintage show car enthusiasts.
