Seller's Notes

1972 Ford F250 Longbed 4x4 Pickup The sixth generation F-series trucks had a number of changes and one of the most visually evident was that the trucks were getting more square. Unlike cars that had gotten progressively rounder, trucks went from bulging, bulbous vehicles in the 50's, to soft curves in the 60's, and finally to super sharp edged trucks beginning in the late 60's and early 70's. For consignment, a 1972 Ford F250 long bed showing 76,408 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This is a great everyday truck according to our consignor and we're apt to agree. What once was reserved for hard working men and farmers is now the cool guy vehicle of the decade. Drive it daily, then bring it to the cruise night! Exterior This Dark Green Metallic has quite a presence on this tall truck, and the teal treatment of the embossed Ford call out on the tailgate is fantastic. There's also subtle teal pinstriping with flourishes on both the nose and tailgate while a wide white spear serves as side trim sandwiched with black borders. The grille combines body colored ribs in a polished frame and round headlights within square bezels for a now classic face from 1972. 16-inch steel wheels feature color keyed hubs and LT rated 75 series all terrain tires. A heavy duty diamond steel plate rear bumper serves as a step up and the passenger gets a modest plate to help rise to the cab. Imperfections include some scuffing in the paint, areas of bubbling, some welded repair with surface rust on that HD bumper, and a spot of surface rust near a tail light, jumping the gap to affect the tailgate as well. Interior A simulated burlwood panel dresses up the black vinyl door cards, handsomely column stitched and framed with polished trim, surrounded by body colored steel. A green bench is present with cloth inserts and vinyl borders, showing in excellent condition and contrasted slightly with the standard steering wheel that shows quite a few cracks. An elongated oval instrument cluster is up ahead with burlwood accenting on the ends and this unique configuration contains horizontal gauges with some hazing of the plexiglass and some patina to the faceplate. Nice green paint covers the rest of the dash where we find an AM/FM radio and vent levers in the middle. The shifter and range selector both rise from the floor which is covered with a full width rubberized mat with light patina throughout. A white headliner is above and the solid rear window looks out over a rough coated black bed which shows evidence of doing some work. Drivetrain The engine bay presents as driver quality which is fine with us! Here we have a 300ci inline six cylinder with a 1-barrel carburetor, rated at 118 horsepower and mated to a 4-speed manual with creeper gear. The front axle is a Dana 44 and the rear is a Dana 60. Undercarriage Driver quality conditions are found unearth with some typical surface rust, some sludge build up on the transmission and front wheel, and oil coating the transfer case and front differential. Power drum brakes are supplied front and rear, as are leaf springs, while the single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler, exiting through a steel pipe. Drive-Ability We take a big first step into the truck and manage to do so without pulling a muscle, which was not easy. Great view from up here and the inline six starts up with a quick prime of the carburetor. The truck delivers an even drive, tracking straight and providing a pace conducive for cruising. We note only the brake lights not working while all other functions operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. We would say that classic pickups, especially 4x4's, are quickly becoming the haute couture vehicle of the day. With classic Broncos, FJ's and other SUV based vintage rides fetching big dollars, hig
