Seller's Notes

1931 Ford Model A Deluxe Coupe Model As were cars Henry Ford never wanted to build. He firmly believed that the Model T was the ultimate car. He changed his mind only when flashier, more modern cars made by his competitors cut deeply into the Model T's sales. More than four million Model As were produced in a wide variety of body styles ranging from utilitarian pickup trucks to formal town cars. This deluxe type of Model A was only offered from 1930-1931 and was one of the most expensive to buy. Only 2,229 were built in 1931. Heritagemuseumsandgardens.org For consignment, a 1931 Ford Model A Deluxe Coupe showing 30,335 miles, but the true miles are unknown. In 2018, this car was the recipient of a full mechanical restoration and has been driven very little since the work, a detailed list of which accompanies the car. Exterior Classic Black, here in two stage application, shines on this antique with more glean than they could have imagined in '31 and the newer technology looks great on this enclosed body style. The color also allows the polished items to really shine through including the radiator shell, headlight housing, bumpers, and cowl trim. Matching 19-inch wire wheels are accentuated by the white wall tires and polished Ford hub covers cap off an authentic and stunning presentation. A spare on the side wears a vinyl cover and the vinyl roof up above is in excellent condition. Wood planks on the rear luggage rack show a touch of patina but still provide an attractive accessory to this clean car, on which we could find no imperfections. Interior Tan cloth coverage under wood window sills and silver hardware is a handsome look and both sides are clean, providing the portal to a tufted gray bench in cloth also in very nice condition. Our rumble seat opens up to reveal stitched black vinyl coverage and an unused appearance. Back up front, the typical four spoke steering wheel leads to a woodgrain dash over a black panel with green pinstriping and the clover leaf metal faceplate that houses gauges and ignition. A touch of mid century technology is added with a CB radio mounted not far from the shifter and hand brake that rise from the rubber coated floor. Drivetrain Here we have a clean 201ci inline six cylinder, rated at 40 horsepower and fueled by a 1-barrel carburetor with newer fuel lines. The car still runs on a 6 volts system and now has an alternator, along with a newer cylinder head, intake and exhaust manifolds, water pump and accessories. It is mated to a 3-speed manual transmission that routes power to the rear axle with 3.70 gears. Undercarriage Clean underneath with minimal surface rust and some residual oil present on the pan, transmission and rear differential. The mechanical drum brakes front and rear were in decent shape during review in 2018 but wheel bearings, hub gaskets, and axle seals were repacked or replaced at that time. A single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler, then dumps under the car and suspension consists of transverse leaf springs at both ends. Drive-Ability This well sorted A starts, idles, and runs well and looks darn good doing it. A comfortable cabin along with steering, newer kingpins and pitman arm, and some new wiring makes this one you can drive with some confidence, as did we, with all functional items operating as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Here's a '31 A that's going to save you a lot of time and money because the sorting work has been done for you. Sure, you'll miss that time in the garage tinkering with 100 year old parts, but now you can have one to enjoy while you finish your project. This is a fine example if you're in the market for a Model A! Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controll
