Provenance:
Before Porsche gave birth to the iconic 911, the German marque had already created another legend — the Porsche 356. Small, lightweight, and infused with racing DNA, the 356 became the car that put Porsche on the map. Throughout the 1950s, it dominated race circuits across Europe and the United States, earning Porsche a reputation for precision engineering and competitive spirit. By the late ’50s, Porsche had introduced several drivetrain variations on the 356 platform. This particular model, the 1600 S (Super), represented a performance step above the standard 1600. The “S” received a higher compression ratio, a revised valve rocker assembly borrowed from the Super 90, and upgraded Zenith carburetors — a combination that produced an additional 14 horsepower and shaved a full second off the 0–60 mph sprint.
This 356 B was completed in December 1961 and delivered new to Porsche Car Southwest of San Antonio, Texas, in December 1962. Its first owner resided in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, as documented on the factory Kardex. The car later found long-term ownership in Denmark, where it underwent a restoration to its original Smyrna Green specification. In 2022, the 356 returned to the United States and joined a prominent air-cooled Porsche collection. The current owner, now refining his focus toward 964s and 993s, is ready for this 356 to begin its next chapter. We are proud to represent this beautifully restored piece of Porsche history — a timeless link to the brand’s earliest triumphs.
