Seller's Notes

Few cars have made an entrance as dramatic or influential as the Ford Mustang. Introduced to the public on April 17, 1964, the very first Mustangs-now commonly referred to as 1964½ models-ignited an automotive revolution. Designed under Lee Iacocca's direction, the Mustang pioneered the pony car segment with its long-hood/short-deck proportions, broad options list, and irresistible price point. Ford's gamble paid off instantly: nearly 22,000 orders were placed on the first day, and over a million Mustangs sold within the first two years. These early 1964½ cars carried several unique production traits and remain highly prized today for their seminal role in shaping American automotive culture. This beautifully presented 1964½ Ford Mustang Convertible is finished in its factory-appointed Wimbledon White with a striking Red vinyl interior and a Black vinyl convertible top, capturing the vibrant character of the earliest Mustangs. Power comes from its original D-code 289ci V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor, paired to a C4 automatic transmission, providing the ideal balance of performance and effortless cruising. It comes well-optioned with power steering, power brakes, factory air conditioning, windshield washer, and 14-inch wheels fitted with classic, polished wire-spoke wheel covers and whitewall tires, all contributing to its authentic period presentation. Additional highlights include a power-operated convertible top, true dual exhaust system, front and rear seatbelts, dual outside mirrors, rubber floor mats, and an upgraded Pioneer AM/FM/Cassette radio neatly integrated into the dash for enhanced drivability without compromising the car's vintage appeal. This special Mustang Convertible had traded hands only twice since 1997. It was fully restored by Pensacola, FL owners prior to that time and shown exclusively at Mustang events, taking 1st Place honors that same year! It would travel to Blacksburg, Virginia where it would be cared for the next 27 years. After the passing of that owner, a family member and professional mechanic in O'Fallon, MO would take possession in April 2025 prepping it for summertime use once again. It would receive a brand new replacement Holley 600cm carburetor with electric choke, new thermostat/gasket, temp sensor, heater hoses, concours upper & lower radiator hoses, fresh lifetime coolant; new power brake booster, Leed master cylinder, brake hoses, all new wheel cylinders, complete brake drum hardware kit, new rear shoes & drums, and fresh brake fluid throughout; front wheel seals; fuel filter, power steering filter; new transmission filter, pan gasket, modulator, and new Type F fluid; along with renewed gear oil in the axle and several miscellaneous cosmetic items to improve its overall presentation. According to records provided, new tires were fitted in November 2023, and earlier in 2021, the transmission was resealed, new KYB shocks installed, along with a R134a air conditioning conversion and new battery installed. It continues to show extremely well and drives wonderfully! Included with the sale will be an original owner's manual, framed original Mustang advertising, storage car cover, ownership records to 1976, service records dating back to 1997, additional Holley carburetor in a box, along with various parts manuals and catalogs. With its desirable early-production pedigree, strong factory options, and timeless color combination, this 1964½ Mustang Convertible stands as both an automotive milestone and a wonderfully enjoyable classic ready for show or weekend touring.
