Seller's Notes

1964 Chrysler 300 Convertible This series dropped the Sport designation used in earlier years. Silver anodized side trim was unique to the 300. A special 300 was introduced as a spring option, called the 300 Silver. It included a silver exterior finish and black vinyl roof with black leather or vinyl interior. A star shaped insignia was placed at the C-pillar on hardtops and the rear part of the front fender on convertibles. The insignia matched the style of the grille insert used on all 300s. The 300 was available as a 2 door hardtop, 4 door hardtop, and convertible. Over-drive-magazine.com For consignment, a 1964 Chrysler 300 convertible with a title verified 121,790 actual miles. In April 2024, this car made the trek from Indiana to Hershey, PA. This is a fairly rare car with distinct features that were reserved to the 300's of the period and this one presents in original condition. Exterior That's single stage Rosewood Poly in all its 60's glory, enhanced by the white, wide spear that rides the beltline of the car and comes to a point towards the front, as if pointing the way forward. The conspicuous characteristics of the 300 include wide set double headlights flanking an elongated grille with red, white and blue crossbars, a patriotic symbol that's repeated on the rear decklid and a large emblem. Also, in back is an artistic and engineering expression where the bumper fits a trimmed cove on each side of the wrap around under ribbed band on the latch panel with contouring tail lights that fold part way like a clamshell. There are also fins rising from the rear fenders and they begin at the base of the soft top's C-pillar. Newer tires ride the 15-inch wheels with a date cover of early 2024. Imperfections here include some discoloration and a tear in the white canvas top, bubbling down low, numerous areas of rust and flaking paint and filler on the rockers. Interior The patina laden interior begins with discolored white vinyl door panels with metal trim and electric window switches in a handsome design that could just use some tightening and detailing. The front seat material was replaced at some point according to our consignor and presents well on the bucket seats while the rear seat is original and shows its age. A somewhat ornate black steering wheel fronts a completely black dash which looks sharp and is trimmed with polished pieces while a row of gauges is flanked by the push button transmission mirrored by the buttons of the climate panel. An AM radio is on the metallic lower panel along with an added temperature gauge. The black carpet below is in good shape and the trunk has a gray cloth floor covering showing some use. Drivetrain Clean driver quality is how we find the 383ci V8, rated at 305 horsepower and topped by a 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the 8 ¾ rear axle. A new pump and hoses have been added for the power steering and a power brake booster is present with a new master cylinder. Undercarriage Generally clean underneath with the typical surface rust and residual oil on the pans and rear differential. Our fuel tank is new and so are the lines and sending unit. The single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler before exiting and power drum brakes occupy all four wheels with new wheel cylinders. Suspension is pretty typical for the time with torsion bars up front and leaf springs in the back and new upper ball joints are onboard. The only rust evident is on the back side of the rocker panels. Drive-Ability The 383 does what 383's do, it starts right up! Around the test loop we go in this rosewood 300 which tracks straight on its newer tires, stops on a dime with its new master cylinder, and handles well with its new ball joints. We note only the clock that's on the dash in the row of gauges not working. All other functions operate as they should and it's back to the mall for this drop top. While C
