1980 AMC Concord DL 2 Door Sedan After the Hornet was discontinued in 1977, AMC released the Concord as the replacement compact car and it lasted from '78 to '83 with a redesign in 1980 that included smoother lines, vinyl roofs, Ziebart factory rust protection, and optional power windows and power seats. More than 80,000 were built in 1980 in coupe, sedan, and station wagon body styles. For consignment, a 1980 AMC Concord DL 2 door sedan with a title verified 29,788 actual miles. If this isn't the nicest 1980 Concord in the market right now, we'd be shocked. The car presents in stock condition and could have just rolled off the AMC showroom floor! Exterior This period piece begins with Medium Blue Iridescent paint with a dark blue shoulder line pinstripe and side body molding. But let's soak in that roof and C-pillar! The fixed opera window is framed in a straked feature that we dare say looks sporty, not quite reaching the racy profile of a Pantera's rear window treatment, but certainly different. The blue vinyl half roof that surrounds them is in excellent condition. Up front, the horizontal grille is upright and flanked by dual headlights and new fog lights were recently added but are not fully hooked up. A first for Concords, the rear tail lights now wrap around and their vertical span is symmetrical with the rear bumper, which also wraps around. 14-inch wheels are topped by wheel arch trim where we find some bubbling over one. Other imperfections include some filler under the C-pillar border trim. The rest of the car is in great condition! Interior AMC wanted to make a luxurious compact car and in fact, the '81 model was awarded most luxurious compact by journalists, so the generous use of simulated wood begins on the door panels, themselves covered in blue vinyl, plastic faceplates, and a modest carpeted lower, all presenting cleanly. The seats combine the sport profile of sporty buckets with deep padding and blue velveteen crushed fabric with stripes, tuck and roll layout and carpeted bases. Both front and back are in very nice condition with some minor staining on the passenger hinge area. Woodgrain and stitched vinyl return to the blue steering wheel fronting a matching dash with simple black gauges and a quartz digital clock to start the 80's. An AM/FM radio is framed in wood in the center along with the A/C panel above an added oil pressure gauge. Plush blue carpet is below, showing a touch of age as do the headliner and visors above with some minor looseness or dimples. The trunk has fitted carpet covering the floor and presents cleanly. Drivetrain A relatively clean engine bay awaits and houses the 258ci inline six cylinder with a 2-barrel carburetor and rated at 110 horsepower. It's backed by an A904 3-speed automatic that routes power to the AMC 20 axle out back. Undercarriage Driver quality underneath with some typical surface rust, fluid on the rear differential and some residual oil on the pans. The knuckles are clear and power brakes are supplied with discs in front and drums in the rear. A single exhaust carries a stock style muffler before exiting behind the bumper, and suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back. Drive-Ability Back to 1980 we go as we step into this bright interior and bring the inline six to life, moving the column shifter into Drive and heading out onto the test loop where this relic of some of our childhoods runs well, tracks straight, and brakes on demand. We note the A/C does not blow cold and the fog light switch is not hooked up yet but beyond that, all functions in this well preserved example work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Some of us are making a beeline to this car if we see it at a car show. Certainly, thanks to 80's and 90's themed shows, this o
