18,270 miles
*Draft Subject to Change* Back in the late 1990s, other than owning a M-series sports cars, owning a 7-series BMW was the driver's way of letting everyone else know you arrived, you are on top. The 7-series competed with Mercedes' S-Class sedans. Made in Dingolfing, Germany on November 22, 1996, this car is said to have remained with the original owner until 2021, then the selling dealer in January 2022. Recent service has included replacing the trunk lid struts and battery as well as an oil change. This BMW is sporting only 18,270 original miles on the clock. It is dressed in Jet Black, (code 668) the car's paint and trim are in overall excellent condition but there are a few blemishes visible at close range. The engine bay is extremely tidy; the cargo area is clean and body-colored bumpers fit tightly to the rest of the car. There are fog lights and a trunk-mounted tool kit that is complete. The underside is remarkably well taken care of for a vehicle that is almost 30 years old. This big BMW rolls on Michelin Energy MXV4 tires, size 235/55R17 at all four corners, and mounted on factory alloy wheels. Underhood is a 4.4L 32-valve DOHC V-8 engine, backed by a ZF five-speed automatic transmission. The M62 has an aluminum block and aluminum heads with fracture-split forged connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons with ferrous-coated side skirts. Most of the M62 engines used Alusil for the block material, however, some early M62 engines used Nikasil cylinder coating instead. Alusil technology integrates silicon throughout the aluminum cast so that liners or treated bores within this block family are not needed. The M62 uses a Bosch Motronic 5.2 engine control unit (also called DME) and a hot wire mass airflow (MAF) sensor. Driver convenience features include dual zone electronic climate control (code S534), Servotronic hydro-steering (code S216), power four-wheel disc brakes, cruise control, power windows, power-folding sideview mirrors, power and heated front bucket seats, power locks, power sunroof (code S403), and a tilting and telescoping steering column. Safety features include dual front airbags, side curtain airbags (codes S250, S260), anti-lock brakes, power and heated front bucket seats (code S459), ASC+T traction control (code S214), Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), and more. Also, the original wheels are included. This is first car available with front passenger head airbags. In late 1997, E38 7 Series and E39 5 Series became the world's first cars available with side impact head airbags. These are known as Inflatable Tubular Structure or Head Protection System, and were available as optional equipment. These airbags are designed to offer head protection in side impact collisions and also maintained inflation for up to seven seconds for rollover protection. Inside, the Sand Beige Montana Leather interior looks sumptuous, comfortable and ready for a road trip. Besides matching carpet and mats, the upper dash is done in a contrasting hue with burled wood trim serving as a divider and for some added cabin warmth. The front buckets beg to be used while the rear bench features a fold-down center armrest. The inner door panels echo the condition of the dash and the seats. The dash features an array of round gauges and includes a whimsical MPG gauge. A console-mounted shifter and high-performance sound system with cassette deck and compact disc changer help round out the interior. Documentation includes the original owner's manual, CARFAX reports and assorted repair invoices and receipts. Competition to this Bimmer in 1997 included Audi's A8, Cadillac's Seville STS, Lexus' LS400, Infiniti's Q45, Jaguar's XJ, Lincoln's Mark VIII LSC and Mercedes-Benz's S500 and S560 sedans.
