The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe was the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with front and rear locking differentials.
The Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder (270 hp, 295 lb-ft) engine and eight-speed automatic with two integrated electric motor-generators. A hybrid battery pack that you can recharge at home or at a public charging station is mounted underneath the rear seats.
The EPA estimates that with a fully charged battery you should be able to drive about 21 miles on all-electric power. This Jeep SUV gets 49 MPG-equivalent in combined city/highway driving when running on electric power! After you've depleted the battery, the powertrain switches to normal gasoline-powered hybrid operation.
Using a 240-volt household-style power outlet, it takes about 2 hours and 25 minutes to charge the battery.
With its odometer now hovering around 36,931, it is STILL COVERED under the balance of the factory powertrain warranty until November 2026 or 60,000 miles (whichever occurs first)!
