Seller's Notes

1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS396 Hardtop Tribute The 1968 Chevrolet Camaro didn't just offer a ride; it offered an experience-a rolling expression of personality and freedom. The colors were not merely paint; they were a statement. In a way, the hues chosen by the original owners have come to define individual cars in the present day, affecting not just their aesthetic appeal but also their collectible value. Thx urechem-paints.com   For consignment, a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS396 hardtop tribute showing 195 miles, but the true miles are unknown. This car received a frame off restoration and houses a period-correct 396ci V8 under the hood. Exterior The stunning hue of Chevrolet's LeMans Blue adheres to the car with two stage application, and the shine not only reflects light, but highlights the body lines, especially the Coke bottle shape of the fenders that rise slightly. It also accentuates the slight bulges on the hood, which are augmented by faux hood vents, one for each cylinder bank, flanking a stiffening rise line that runs the length of the hood. The white nose stripe flows over like nasal strips, painted on and flowing back to a spear point over the door. 14-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels are wrapped in 205/70R14 tires with a late 2021 date code and white letters out. In back, a spoiler is color keyed to the car and double red tail lights framed in black and silver bezels are embedded in the latch panel while the reverse lights are in the valance. Brightwork is in great shape, including the bumpers, and the paint is in great shape and we find no glaring imperfections on the exterior.    Interior The black palette inside creates a handsome and clean cabin, beginning with the door panels with a smooth plastic design over a carpeted lower, modestly accented by silver trim. The seats frame black and white houndstooth cloth with black vinyl and both the front buckets and rear bench are in great shape. Modernized dual gauges are in the sightline past the 3 spoke steering wheel, framed in glossy black while the center stack gets coverage of simulated wood grain and houses the A/C panel and an AM radio, and we jump back into modern times with the updated quad gauge set up in the middle. The wood returns as the base of the horseshoe shifter that hovers over the greenish indicator plate. Both the black carpet and black headliner are in very nice condition, and the trunk is clean and lined with a plaid vinyl mat and fitted carpeted mat with SS 396 embroidered in blue.  Drivetrain The spotless engine bay holds a period- correct 396ci V8 with a .520 lift cam, Weiand intake, and a Holley Sniper EFI kit. It's mated to a TH400 3-speed automatic that routes power to the 12 bolt axle and 2.56 gears with Positraction. Chrome valve covers, MSD ignition, and a power brake booster are all part of the attractive environment in the business end of the classic Camaro. Undercarriage With the frame off, the restoration didn't stop with the top side as it's fantastically clean with satin black paint serving as the backdrop on the under-body panels. Dual exhaust runs together to find a FlowMaster muffler in back which gives way to two tailpipes then ends up terminating with down facing ends. Brakes are power disc front and power drum rear and suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaf springs in the back. There's no rust, not even surface rust, no errant fluids, and not even any road dust! Drive-Ability The car comes to life with a healthy exhaust note that is good enough to turn heads, while the car itself will keep them pointed your way. We see clouds reflected in the blue paint as we roll onto the test loop and experience acceleration on demand, solid tracking, and great braking. As clean as this car is, it feels like 1968 all over again. We note the A/C is not working but all other functions operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test
