The ID.4 won this award for its range, comfort, user-friendly technology, and innovation. IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK -- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the ID.4 this award for its advanced safety features and robust construction. They gave the 2024 Volkswagen ID.4 the highest rating of Good in all three crash tests administered. Car and Driver Editors' Choice -- Car and Driver awarded the ID.4 this award for its space, good looks, and relaxed demeanor.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2024 ID.4 an overall safety rating of five out of five stars, with five stars in the frontal and side crash tests and four stars in the rollover test.

ID.4 models with the smaller battery (Standard and S) have a maximum driving range of 206 miles. Thanks to battery improvements for 2024, models with the larger 82-kWh battery get an EPA-estimated 263 miles of driving range for all-wheel-drive models and 291 miles for the rear-wheel-drive versions. Volkswagen says that all ID.4 models, regardless of battery type, can go from a 10% to an 80% charge in as little as 30 minutes using DC fast charging (Level 3). with 240-volt (Level 2) home or public charging, the ID.4 can reach a full charge in a little more than six hours (62-kWh battery) or eight hours (82-kWh) battery.
