1996 Ford Mustang GT Convertible Now that the year old redesign of the Ford Mustang has some miles on it, both Ford and the Mustang's obsessed clientele are ready for a few important changes. A Mustang Cobra making more than 300 hp is certainly welcome. And finally banished from the '96 Mustang GT is the ancient overhead valve 5.0 liter V8, which-in various guises-has powered Mustangs since their inception. Certain purists may wail and gnash their teeth over this one, but it's a transition we like. Car and Driver, September 1995 For consignment, a 1996 Ford Mustang GT convertible with a title verified 80,756 actual miles. This one's been rebuilt from the ground up, according to our consignor, now sporting a Cobra drivetrain. ***Due to modifications of the emissions control devices installed by the manufacturer, please check your local, state, and federal laws to determine if this vehicle is applicable for use on public highways in your area.*** Exterior Deep Forest Green Metallic is the coverage here, nicely contrasted by the tan canvas convertible top. Meanwhile, the Mustang has a sporty profile with a cowl hood and intake ducts and on each rear quarter panel and the end of a heritage body line. The monochromatic back is where sportiness excels with a rear wing over stamped bumper cover and clear lenses on the tail lights which reside in black framing. 18-inch Bullitt wheels add some aggression and their metal rim picks up on the polished exhaust tips which can be seen in profile. The exterior is in very good shape including the canvas top and its glass window. Imperfections include touched up chips including some rough ones on the front bumper. Interior Two tone plastic formed door panels include black over saddle and a carpeted insert next to an embedded speaker and all have held up well, especially as our consignor notes the entire interior is new. Inside, tall saddle leather bucket seats occupy the front and the driver's seat shows some usage but the passenger unit and the rear 2+2 are in great shape. A leather wrapped steering wheel presents with slight patina, fronting the black over saddle dashboard, basic gauge cluster ahead, and A/C with an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette radio and CD player in the center stack. The black plastic of the dash cascades down to form the base for the shifter which gives way to the saddle color molded center console over tan carpet. Gray cloth cover panels dress the trunk and present cleanly, housing a battery box. Drivetrain Under the hood is a 4.6 liter DOHC 32 valve, fuel injected and rated at 305 horsepower. It's mated to a T45 5-speed manual transmission sending power to the Ford 8.8 rear with 3.27 gears and TracLoc. The bay presents cleanly and shows a Cobra branded cold air intake tube. Undercarriage Clean conditions prevail underneath with no surface rust to speak of and only residual oil on the pan with no leaks visible. The dual exhaust comes from headers and each side has a cut out before finding their way to FlowMaster mufflers, eventually exiting through long polished tips. There are no catalytic converters on board. Cobra front brakes are part of the four wheel drive power disc system and suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with a 4 link accompanying in back. Red coils and body bracing along with orange shock absorbers make for a clean underside peppered with color. Drive-ability Upon start up, we note a rattling noise at engine speed coming from the motor so we'll stay put and check functionality. We're pleased to find all workable components, switches, lights, and other items operating at 100%. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Despite the aggressive cowl hood, what we have here is a sleeper with quite a few extra ponies under that hood. There's incredible potential here with
