2004 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4x4 The Jeep posse sought to assure us that the latest Wrangler is just like any other Wrangler tough, uncompromising, and true to its long tradition except that it's longer. It's a strategy designed not to offend Wrangler traditionalists, who welcome change about as much as 18th century French aristocrats, while offering something to people who find existing Wranglers a bit cramped. Car and Driver, July 2004 For consignment, a 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4x4 with a title verified 101,866 actual miles. This one is equipped with a 9500 pound winch, a 2.5 lift, and extra lights among other additions to help create a unique Wrangler. Exterior Well sure, it's Black, but it's that front bumper that grabs your attention with more utility than a Swiss Army knife! Large D-ring shackles lead the way with large fog lights next door, under the Smittybilt 9500 winch and cable protected by a bull bar, finally giving way to the infamous 7 slot grille, here lined with chrome. Matte black stripes ascend over the hood only to be flanked by two more lights, spotlights on the A-pillars. This really is a two parter with the Rally top, meaning the roof comes off targa style over the front occupants while the rear section is also removable and has a roof rack. Out back, tow hooks, a trailer hitch, and added LED lights are on board for late night rescues. It wouldn't be a real Jeep without some outdoor bruises and imperfections including some blistering and dimples above the side step and peeling paint on the rear bumper. Interior Gray formed plastic door panels include storage bins with drainage holes and plastic hardware and both are in decent condition. Our driver's seat of dark gray cloth shows a touch of patina and use while the rear bench and passenger seat are well preserved. The robust steering wheel holds an airbag and fronts a basic instrument cluster behind plexi with a green digital readout augmented by a dual gauge package on top of the dashboard. Below it, the AM/FM/CD radio, A/C dials, and some auxiliary switches. In the center console, a T-shaped automatic shifter and requisite cupholders over black carpet and fitted weather mats. The cargo area shows proper use and a floor covered with black carpet. Drivetrain Undo the side latches, open the hood, prop it with the bar, and view the 4.0 liter inline six cylinder with 190 horsepower, fuel injected and mated to a 42RLE 4-speed automatic transmission. Power is routed to the rear axle and front on demand, both with 3.07 gears. The engine bay presents in clean, driver quality condition. Undercarriage Same underneath with the type of surface rust and corrosion you'd expect on a 100k miles Jeep, and some that's a bit more advanced on the rear part of the frame, with some encapsulating efforts evident. A 4 link with coil springs make up the suspension front and rear while power brakes are split disc in front and drums in back. The single exhaust meets a Monster Muffler and exits through a chrome tip behind the rear bumper.  Drive-Ability The trusty four liter fires right up and we set her into Drive and go gravel hopping on our test loop where she tracks straight, has plenty of power, and thanks to the carpeted Rally top, a quieter than average ride. We note the A/C not working but all other functions on this true utility vehicle operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. While most Jeeps we see have a standard transmission, we also see the value in an automatic, especially when you're wheeling out in the wilds and can use both hands to steer your way over rocks, parking lot partitions, and other obstacles. While Foresters and RAV4s flood our streets, there are few that are as capable as a well equipped Jeep and this dark knight has plenty of fun mud and snow rides ahe
