2006 Toyota Camry Solara

2006 Toyota Camry Solara SLE Convertible Two generations of Solara were produced and by the end of the second generation, sales had gone from 50,000 per year to just over 20,000. The coupe version was discontinued in 2008 but the convertible would go on for one more model year. In late 2008, sales projections fell short and the line was officially discontinued as two seat convertibles took precedence in the marketplace. For consignment, a 2006 Toyota Camry Solara SLE convertible with a title verified 51,286 actual miles, a clean and obviously well maintained car owned by our consignor for 13 years.  Exterior Other than the raked windshield, we would go out on a limb and say this car has slight Saab 900 vibes in overall shape with its bathtub straight shoulder line, sloping rear deck, somewhat upright posture and longer hood. That said, there's nothing quite like the Solara convertible and they are immediately identifiable on the street. This one is in Absolutely Red paint and wears an attractive tan canvas top with a glass window and has a sharp presence. The headlight and tail light have a similar trajectory sweeping towards the center of the car in an oblong shaped lens that's flush with the body.  We note some body cladding on this car that gives it a slight sporty feel over the standard Camry. Imperfections include a small dent on the right front fender, some rock chips up front, touched up and untouched scratches and chips, chin and apron scrapes, and some spotting on the canvas top.  Interior This Camry is dressed for the ball with woodgrain headers accenting warm, beige door panels and charcoal window sills. Tall leather bucket seats occupy the front with plenty of adjustability and decent bolstering for a pedestrian cruiser and along with the rear 2+2 that enjoys high backs and head restraints, all present cleanly. Back up front, the dash picks up on the colors and configuration of the door bringing over a bit of that wood accent that adds warmth to the angular dash topped by an arched hood. Instrumentation is modern and clear and fairly basic while black plastic switchgear abounds on the mid panel. A center screen exhibits the factory installed AM/FM/CD changer stereo and other features while the A/C panel is a streamline affair in a brushed nickel faceplate. We note hairline cracks throughout the taupe dash pad and on the passenger's beige panel. Tan carpet covers the floor while the trunk is finished in gray cloth covered panels, all very clean.  Drivetrain Powering our convertible is a 3.3 liter V6 rated at 225 horsepower. A 5-speed automatic transmission sets it in motion and keeps power at the front wheels and 3.29 gears. The bay presents in very nice condition.  Undercarriage Clean underneath and pretty unremarkable with nothing out of place. Power disc brakes are employed at all four wheels and a single exhaust system runs through original equipment. Both front and rear suspension are independent and equipped with Macpherson struts.  Drive-Ability We take our seat in the pleasant cabin of this car and the engine eagerly starts and the car delivers smooth, quiet power around our test loop. It tracks straight, handles well, and despite the wide C-pillar of the convertible top, provides decent visibility. All functional items on board work just as they should and we take this sun loving car back inside. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. It's not a mystery why half a million Camrys were sold in the U.S. in 2006. They are simple, comfortable, efficient, and well appointed. This one does what well maintained Toyotas do, starts right up, delivers an undramatic ride that is comfortable and plenty powerful, and gets you from A to B in fine style.
