Seller's Notes

The 1978 Honda CX500 was a technologically innovative and reliable motorcycle known for its liquid-cooled V-twin engine and shaft drive, making it a popular and enduring classic bike. When launched, the 1978 Honda CX500 was considered "first into the future" due to its incorporation of several features uncommon for the time.
Liquid Cooling: It was one of the first production motorcycles to feature a liquid-cooled engine, a design choice that made the engine run quietly and smoothly.
V-twin Engine: This was Honda's first V-twin motorcycle, with an 80-degree engine configuration and the cylinder heads twisted 22° to position the carburetors out of the rider's way.
Shaft Drive: The low-maintenance shaft final drive was another innovative feature, distinguishing it from most of its chain-driven contemporaries.
Tubeless Tires: It was the first production bike equipped with tubeless tires on its unique Comstar wheels.
Electric Start: The motorcycle featured an electric-only starting system, and the electronic ignition system was separate, allowing the bike to be push-started if the main electrical system failed. The CX500 was designed as a capable middleweight touring bike rather than an outright performance machine.
Engine Performance: It featured a 497cc four-stroke, four-valve per cylinder, OHV V-twin engine that produced a claimed 48 hp at 9,000 rpm.
Handling: Reviewers at the time found the engine powerful and quiet on the road, and the bike had a comfortable, upright seating position. Some testers found the original forks to be soft and prone to bottoming out under hard braking.
Durability: The bike developed a reputation for being reliable and rugged, earning it a following among dispatch riders in Europe who valued its ability to run all day with minimal maintenance.
Market Value: As a classic motorcycle, current prices for a 1978 model can range from approximately $1,500 to over $10,000 for one in excellent condition, according to J.D. Power values.

Looking at this example, it is in impeccable shape for being a 47 year old machine. The condition is one of the best I've seen in quite a while. For anyone looking to relive that nostalgia, this bike is the one! It also comes with the rear seat that's they solo style. This bike has been fully serviced, inspected and ready to roll.
