How Do You Charge the Tesla Model Y?
Each Tesla Model Y comes with a 48-amp onboard charger and a 20-foot cord that can connect to a 120-volt household-style power outlet. Other at-home charging options include using an adapter to connect to an existing 240-volt outlet or purchasing a dedicated wall charger from Tesla or a third-party provider.
When you're on the road, you can charge at one of Tesla's Supercharger stations, or use the included J1772 adapter at most public charging stations. You can also take advantage of CHAdeMO stations with an available adapter.
How Long Does It Take to Charge the Tesla Model Y?
Charging the Model Y at a Tesla Supercharger station is the fastest way to juice up. You can recoup 162 miles of range in just 15 minutes of charging at one of these dedicated spots. Most Superchargers are located near shopping centers, restaurants, or other high-traffic areas. You can also pass the time when charging by taking advantage of a premium connectivity plan that lets you watch streaming services or play games using the touch screen.
Using the standard 120-volt charging cord at home is not recommended because it only adds a few miles of range per hour of charging. It can take up to several days of charging to completely recharge the Model Y's battery using this method. You're better off using a 240-volt outlet at home. This speeds up the charging to about 30 to 44 miles per hour, which would recharge the battery overnight for most users.
