Seller's Notes

1963 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron 4 Door Hardtop Its classic town car roof and formal rear window heighten the elegance of Imperial design. Special luxuries are reserved for the LeBaron; fine walnut inlays and rich leather accents enhance its interiors. Power windows, power vents, power seats, power steering, and power braking all are provided as standard equipment. Our proudest displays of hand craftsmanship are reserved for the Imperial driver and passenger. From the 1963 Chrysler brochure.  For consignment, a 1963 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron 4 door hardtop showing 12,089 miles, but the true miles are unknown. An astoundingly low 1,537 LeBarons were produced in 1963. In 1975, Chrysler retired the Imperial brand due to declining sales and the next generation of LeBarons would be rebadged the New Yorker Brougham in 1976. Exterior Sharing the overall appearance of the Custom and Crown of the same year, cars also produced in limited numbers, the LeBaron was the flagship model, and this one elegant, flowing panels are bathed in Ivory paint. Notable features that make the Imperials unique are the finned fenders in back, capped by linear tail lights and flanking a spare tire bump out dressed up on the decklid. The car has bold trim around the C-pillar and rear window while up front, the body takes on a concave profile to house floating quad headlights in a daring and highly unique design. The hood recessed on top, flanked by large, flat fenders that become the eyebrow over the marker lights and the origin of a trim piece that flows all the way to the rear of the car. Imperfections include paint run and an area of bubbling. Overall, paint and trim are in excellent condition.  Interior Chrysler was operating on a different plane in this period and it shows up most pronounced the interior where modern and edgy design is utilized whenever possible. The trim on the door switches, robust and stylish door opener, and wood insert with pseudo engraved scroll design are like nothing else on the road in '63, and all four doors present cleanly. Cream colored leather covers the split bench seat with square shaped uppers and wide, stitched lowers and the reappearance of the scroll design on the seat shell. Like the front, the rear bench shares a center armrest and presents in very nice condition over beautiful brown carpet. The steering wheel is absolutely unique, more oval than round and somewhat square, giving way to a beautifully sculpted brown dashboard with push button transmission, matching push button A/C pod, and white on gray elegance on the speedometer and instrumentation. Rotating vents are perched on top of the dash, and a compass is mounted to the transmission tunnel below, and it all presents in show quality condition.    Drivetrain Under the hood is a relatively clean powerplant known as the 413ci Golden Lion V8, with an astounding 340 horsepower fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor. Behind it, an A727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission sending that herd of horses back to the 8 ¾ rear with 2.93 gears. The engine shows use, but the underside of the hood shows more and could benefit from a bit of detailing to remove soot and other blemishes.  Undercarriage Clean and dry underneath with minimal surface rust and possibly undercoated at some point. The exhaust splits midway down the car and each side enters a stock style muffler before exiting out back through straight, chrome pipes. Power drum brakes are at all four wheels where our 235/75R15 tires possess a late 2020 date code. Suspension consists of torsion bars up front and leaf springs in the back.  Drive-Ability Upon start up, we noticed a bad miss and rough idle, so we didn't venture too far. We were able to check functionality in place and all workable items operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your
