Seller's Notes

1947 Chevrolet Stylemaster Sport Coupe The engine, chassis, and body constructions of the Stylemaster series are identical with those of the Fleetline and Fleetmaster series. Thus, these lowest priced Chevrolets offer all the advantages of the higher priced series in performance, safety, riding qualities, roominess, and economy of operation. In external appearance, they differ only in a few minor details of trim; the chief differences are in their interior equipment, fittings, and finish. From the 1947 Chevrolet Brochure For consignment, a 1947 Chevrolet Stylemaster sport coupe with the true miles being unknown. Our consignor estimates this car generates 950-1000 horsepower and once ran a 10.41 at Atco Dragway. Exterior In true street rod fashion, this car features front flames that lick rearward with a realism that had us reaching for an extinguisher! It's a nice presentation over the Ruby Red Metallic body which glistens like a piece of wet candy, reflecting light off of the curved shoulder line, the articulated rear fender, and the rounded rump. A supercharger pushes up a massive air scoop above the hood and whatever goes on under that hood is expelled through big exhaust pipes in front of each front wheel. Those wheels are 15-inch Weld wheels with deep set, tubbed units in back and more pedestrian sized widths in front. From a short distance, the body looks perfect, but with our due diligence we note a few flaws including numerous paint chips, cracks, scratches, uneven or evident filler. Interior Remnants of Chevrolet's goals of luxury trim are evident around the window frames, here followed by gray cloth door panels showing some age but retaining the original style hardware. A full roll cage encircles more modern gray cloth bucket seats, equipped with a racing harness on the driver's side and behind the seats, a finished area with carpeted tub inner fenders, paint matched metal tunnel and gray cloth sidewalls. A Grant steering wheel fronts a dash that combines old school originality with modern ProComp gauges and tachometer with shift light. A racing toggle board tops an aluminum center stack with more gauges and more switches in conjunction with an MSD ignition station tucked under the passenger's dash. In the center is a Hurst Quarter Stick shifter, built for performance more than pedestrian aesthetics, and ready to rip! The floor is carpeted, the headliner covered, and the trunk is home to the fuel cell and battery. Drivetrain Pivot the front clip forward to reveal a polished 505ci stroker V8 with a BDS supercharger topped by two 1050cfm 4-barrel carburetors. All of this is estimated to produce between 950 and 1,000 horsepower. It is mated to a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to a Ford 9 Strange Engineering axle. Naturally, headers are on board. Undercarriage The purpose built chassis features a Mustang II front end and ladder bars in back with coil overs. Disc brakes are pressurized by a Wilwood master cylinder and the dual exhaust travels through stainless Magnaflow mufflers before the big pipes turn out to the sides. Drive-Ability We try not to flog cars with obvious gargantuan power, and based on the healthy grunt of this car's exhaust, we won't be testing its limits. Suffice it to say this is basically a race car you can street and would be ideal for short trips to the local car show and cruise in, or on a trailer to the track. All functional items on board operate as they should including the unbuckling process which we do when returning to the mall. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. A blast from the past with some modern touches that will leave you aghast! This is a red rocket that's essentially a turnkey ball of fun. If you're in the market for an attractive and raucous street rod, this flaming hot number migh
