1973 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

Redesigned for 1973, Chevrolet's Monte Carlo leaned into the personal luxury car theme of the day, meaning flashy styling complete with opera windows. But unlike many of its wallowing peers, it was also a driver's car, with plenty of power and a buttoned-down suspension that made for surprisingly athletic handling.

Here we have a 1973 Monte Carlo that must be seen to be believed. Last on the road in 1980, this Monte has just 35,299 miles on the odometer. Look at the rock-solid and arrow-straight body with its original silver paint still gleaming and the original interior with its pristine upholstery and you'll agree that the car's amazing condition supports the mileage. The underside is rock solid. Note that the exhaust is the original system from 1973 and we are replacing it as the car is presently in the shop for service.

A black vinyl roof, a set of factory Rally wheels (a fourth Rally wheel has been found) and a soon to be installed set of new white-letter radial tires add to the Monte's massive curb appeal. The all-original interior looks as if it belongs in the 1973 Monte Carlo brochure.

Some things however wear down from time and not mileage, such as the deteriorated/missing bumper fillers as seen in the photos. We have a new set on order and will install them on the car before the sale. As stated earlier, we will also be installing a new dual exhaust system which will give the car a subtle yet muscular soundtrack.

Under that long hood is the original 350 4-barrel V8 which starts and runs fine. There's plenty of power on tap, as this was before the advent of the power-robbing catalytic converter systems that would debut for 1975. That bulletproof 350 is matched to a smooth TH350 automatic transmission while power steering and power front disc brakes add to the ease of piloting this handsome and comfortable luxury coupe.
