1969 Dodge Super Bee
With the success of the Plymouth Road Runner, in 1968, Dodge Divisions General Manager requested a similar model from the Dodge styling office. They held a contest which the senior designer won with his Super Bee name and logo design. The name was inspired by the "B body" platform used for Chrysler's mid sized cars. Although they shared a similar design as the Road Runner the Super Bee had a slightly larger wheel base, was slightly heavier, had larger wheel openings, a fancier grill, and that unique Bumble Bee tail stripe. They also opted for actual die cast chrome medallions to show off the new Bee logo. This 1969 is a nice example that is in great shape. It is painted in the popular Hemi Orange color with the iconic White tail stripe. It has nicely chromed front/rear bumpers and all of the stainless throughout is in good condition. The glass is tinted and all nice throughout with no cracks or issues. These have the total muscle car look with the dual rear brake scoops and twin scoops on the hood. It rides on Magnum 500 wheels with Indy 500 white letter Firehawk tires.
Turning those tires is a great running 440 V8 6 pack motor. The motor has a lot of power and is fitted with Mopar Performance valve covers. It looks clean under the hood with the inner fenders, firewall and radiator support all nicely painted. It runs cool with added dual electric fans. The engine is combined with a 4 speed manual transmission that shifts smoothly. On the front fender is the "Hurst Equipped" emblem and it has the "440" emblem on the hood. The car also features power steering and disc brakes up front.
The interior of the car is in all Black with Silver seat inserts and the upholstery is in good condition. It has a split bench up front with seat belts and headrests along with a full bench in rear. The Black carpet is in nice shape and on the floors are Super Bee floormats and the Hurst pistol grip shifter. The dash has a very stock look with all of its stock gauges and controls. The only real modification is the Sunpro tachometer added to the column which is topped off with a 3 spoke woodgrain steering wheel. The trunk has an original style mat on the floor and houses the spare and jack.
The Super Bee is an iconic Mopar and this one is ready for a new place to call home.
