There's something special about this GMC Terrain. It could be Terrains in general, or the model year, or maybe just this specific unit, but I like it a lot. For the miles and years this thing has, it's tight, mechanical superb, and there's something distinctly comforting about driving it. The seats and layout of the car are unique among the 5 seat SUV crossover class, but other than simply feeling more American designed, I really couldn't put it into words the vibe I get off this car. Maybe I'm just a sucker for the heated seats, because I've been in a lot of cars and very few 10+ year old cars have seat warmers as effective as this one. Either way, the car drives great. There's a decently weighty heft to it that is matched with a subtly powerful engine feel that sends you down the highway with a subconscious confidence that most of the Japanese cars in the same class can't create.
The engine is a Ecotec 2.4L I4 that puts out 182hp but still manages to get 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, so neither the weight or the horsepower puts it at a significant disadvantage for cost or enjoyment of driving if you own it. The safety rating was 4 stars and it got an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award that year. The white paint is the most magnificent or prominent on the road, but it hides dirt and wear better than a lot of whites do, and for a Terrain the whole aesthetic isn't quite "beautiful" in the traditional sense for cars.
Now I would go so far as to call it rugged, solid, and dependable, which is why this one lasted so many miles and why The Car Dad is willing to put it on the frontline of our dealership, and you know how picky he can be about cars . . .
