1969 International 1200d Long Bed Pickup The D-Series name continuation was a hint at what the new trucks were: A light reworking of the old C-Series to save as much cash as possible. It was lean times for IH, and the company intended to offer as much flexibility as possible to attract the greatest number of pickup customers. International succeeded in offering more build options than any of the competition, which resulted in a dizzying array of cab, engine, and wheelbase combinations. Thetruthaboutcars.com For consignment, a 1969 International 1200D long bed pickup truck with a title verified 111,637 actual miles. The truck comes with a logbook with entries from March of 1969 when it had 67 miles on it, all the way up to 1988 when it clockee in with 80,476. Exterior This handsome unit has had one repaint, according to our consignor, in the original Medium Blue, and it shines brightly under our lights. The IH trademark of simplicity also shines through with single headlights in the horizontal grille and polished bezel over a wrap- around chrome bumper while wide mirrors flank the boxy cabin. Things are kept unassuming out back with basic tail lights, a stamped tailgate, and a steel topped, heavy duty bumper. The bold trim on the side, a black band bordered by polished trim, is a nice visual connector to the 16-inch American Racing wheels, here wrapped in LT rated tires. There's a clean bedliner and snaps in place for the tonneau cover that comes with the truck. At a distance, it looks fantastic but our crack staff and their magnifying glass pick up some typical imperfections including scratches, chips, spotting, discoloration at both fuel fills, light bubbling, and a detaching bumper topper. Interior Blue vinyl door cards show some patina and a ding or two in the steel panels, a testimony to this truck's working days. A patterned and textured vinyl bench seat also shows some age, but is fully intact and completely presentable behind a simple steering wheel and equally unpretentious dashboard with horizontal instruments and a row of metal knobs. The dash pad appears newer and rounds out a clean control center over a grain vinyl coated floor, in blue, where the shifter rises from the transmission tunnel. Up top, a perforated white headliner is in place. Drivetrain Not quite ready for show, but complete and stock looking is the 392ci V8, rated at 200 horsepower and fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor. Setting the truck in motion is a T445 4-speed manual transmission routing power to the Dana 60 axle in back. Power brakes, power steering, and headers are on board. Undercarriage Typical surface rust, some sludge build up, residual fluids in places, all noted on the otherwise invasive rust free bottom. Power drum brakes are at all four wheels and dual exhaust go from headers to FlowMaster mufflers, then exit behind each rear wheel. Leaf spring suspension is employed front and back. Drive-Ability Visibility, especially with the large side mirrors, is very good as we roll this blue long bed onto the test loop. The V8 provides adequate power and the truck tracks straight and along with a decent exhaust note comes some exhaust leaks. Functionally, all items work including the AM/FM radio in the dash. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. In 1969, International Harvester only had sales equal to just 4.1 percent of all truck sales and the forthcoming oil crisis would not help things in future years. The D-series was therefore short lived and we rarely see them, so this sorted specimen represents an uncommon truck that's spectacular in its simplicity. Classic Auto Mall is home to more than 1,000 classic and collectible vehicles for sale via consignment in a climate controlled 336,000-square foot showroom (that's more than 8 acres!).
