1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Coupe For 1985, Trans Am gets a dramatic new look with a smartly restyled aero package standard. Under the hood, the Trans Am offers the choice of three powerplants, the base engine is a five liter V8, four barrel delivering 155 horsepower. Inside, Trans Am's designed for the performance edge with full instrumentation featuring large, easy to read gauges. Sound exciting? Trans Am is world class excitement. From the 1985 promotional video. For consignment, a 1985 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am coupe with a title verified 79,766 actual miles. With a screaming eagle on the hood and smoked tail lights out back, there's no mistaking this F-body for anything else, and that's just the way we like it! Exterior The body kit offers a contrast not just in curvature, but in a darker shade of silver than the Silver Metallic of the body panels themselves, and the kit is accented by a red stripe that fully encircles the car. This slick top example features the typical hood louvers and vents that made the T/A special, while the marker lights tuck into a dark cove that underscores the hidden headlights and foglights split wide inside aerodynamic indents. Out back, an attractive smoked light bar includes the center of the latch panel while dual exhaust now shoots straight back and a wing hovers over the decklid at the end of a sloping and curved rear window. Imperfections on this one include numerous scratches and chips throughout, some cracking of the vinyl eagle, touched up chipping by the door handle, edge chipping, a ding in the door near the side mirror, some paint blistering, a corrected corner scuff on rear bumper, gap issues on front right fender, some mismatched panels or cladding, and a missing filler panel near the side mirror. Interior Gray panels enhanced by black trim and hardware have held up well on the doors and the big ports open to the Medium Dark Gray cloth bucket seats up front with the driver's seat showing typical ingress wear and missing the seat belt guide. Our passenger seat and 2+2 buckets in the back are in good condition. Up front, the foam, three spoke steering wheel has softened, as they do, and presents with lumpy top half and leads to a clean dashboard both condition wise and in design, with smooth gray plastic housing gridded gauges in clear view. Plastic switchgear shows a touch of wear and an AM/FM/CD/AUX has been added under the A/C panel in the center stack. Grids continue to decorate faceplates in the center console where the leather handled shifter resides, all above gray carpet that extends to the rear cargo area and presents in good shape. An overhead console lives on the ceiling along with the foam backed headliner showing a touch of age along with the visors which definitely look their age. Drivetrain Under the hood is a driver quality bay containing the 305 LG4 V8, rated at 155 horsepower and fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to GM's ubiquitous 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission and power is routed to the 10 bolt rear axle with 3.08 gears. Undercarriage Relatively clean conditions underneath where a single exhaust flows into a FlowMaster muffler which expels two tailpipes. Power brakes are on board with disc in front and drums in back and suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with a torque arm accompanying in back. Drive-Ability Death, taxes, and the pleasing ergonomics of an F-body are all sure things! This well loved car does not disappoint and while the engine delivers sub 200hp performance, it's more than enough for fun. 215/65R15's are wrapped around the Pontiac wheels and they're fairly fresh with their late 2022 date code and deliver good grip and straight tracking. Other than the A/C not working, all other functions do and we fly this Firebird back to the mall to find a place to roost. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these
