Seller's Notes

1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Chassis Number: 113.044-12-022151 Engine Number: 130-983-12-01492 (Matches Factory Data Card) This lovely 280SL is finished in factory-specified Signal Red over Black and is complete with a removable Pagoda hard top, black soft top, tool kit, owner's manual set, and spare tire. The desirable factory options include: (249) Heated Rear Glass in Hard Top, (426) Floor Shift Automatic and Power Steering, (491) US Model, (593) Heat Insulating Glass (all around), and (515) Becker Europa radio. The Signal Red paint is in very nice condition without any major flaws or dents. The exterior trim fits the body nicely and is presentable. The body was nicely restored with excellent panel fit and doors that open and shut with precision. The Signal Red hubcaps recently received fresh paint and they look great. The painted-to-match hardtop is easy to take on and off but due to the weight it is a two-person endeavor. The headliner inside the hardtop is free of any rips or tears but the color has mellowed with age. The soft top fits tight and the mechanism is smooth however the canvas is worn in two small areas. The MB Tex interior is in good shape and recently received new carpets with correct materials and binding. The door panels are tight and look good. Two years the interior gauges were removed from the dash and restored. The needles and markings are bright and can be seen through completely clear glass. The engine runs smoothly and makes good power. A recent compression test revealed the following numbers: Cylinder 1: 168 psi, Cylinder 2: 167 psi, Cylinder 3: 166 psi, Cylinder 4: 157 psi, Cylinder 5: 164 psi, Cylinder 6: 171 psi. A recent mechanical inspection noted new brake rotors and pads all the way around, a fresh steering stabilizer, new tie rod ends, new brake lines, and a recent exhaust. The undercarriage is unrestored and has oil residue in the usual places. The chassis rails are solid, and the floor is good overall, except for an area underneath the passenger footwell where a floor jack caused a crack in the undercoating and the exposed metal has rusted. This is an excellent opportunity to buy a well-sorted Pagoda without breaking the bank.
