Overview
Lancia has always been a company that placed engineering ahead of convention, and the Flavia is a perfect example of that philosophy. Introduced in the early 1960s, the Flavia was groundbreaking for its time, featuring front-wheel drive, an aluminum flat-four boxer engine, 4-speed transmission, and four-wheel disc brakes when many competitors were still relying on far more traditional mechanical layouts.
The Flavia 2000 Coupe represents the final evolution of this sophisticated platform. Styled by the legendary Pininfarina, the coupe version refined the Flavia’s engineering into a sleek and elegant grand touring car that blends Italian design with Lancia’s famously advanced mechanical solutions.
The clean proportions, subtle body lines, and delicate brightwork give the car a timeless look that feels both refined and purposeful. From the rear quarter view, the Pininfarina styling really comes alive, with the crisp roofline and balanced stance making it clear that this car was designed by one of the great Italian coachbuilders.
Inside, the cabin reflects the understated elegance typical of Lancia’s grand touring cars. The Veglia Borletti gauges, Jaeger clock, and wood-rim steering wheel create a classic driver-focused environment. Everything feels purposeful, simple, and unmistakably Italian.
Engineering
Power comes from Lancia’s distinctive 2.0-liter aluminum flat-four engine, paired to a 4-speed manual transmission driving the front wheels. This particular example belongs to the 820.030 chassis series, which identifies it as the carbureted Flavia 2000 Coupe.
Later Flavia 2000 coupes with chassis series 820.430 were equipped with Lancia’s mechanical fuel injection system, while the 820.030 cars retained the simpler and often more easily serviced carburetor setup.
The flat-four layout allows the engine to sit extremely low in the chassis, contributing to excellent balance and a smooth driving character. Combined with front-wheel drive and four-wheel disc brakes, the Flavia delivers a driving experience that was remarkably advanced for its era and still feels composed and confident today.
These cars were designed as true continental grand tourers—comfortable, stable at speed, and engineered for long-distance driving rather than outright aggression.
Lancia Collector Value
Among Italian collector cars, Lancia occupies a special place. For decades the company built vehicles that pushed engineering boundaries well ahead of the rest of the industry. Innovati
