16,637 miles
1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS Tribute On occasion, Detroit comes up with a one year wonder that strikes a chord with its audience. Chevrolet's first facelift of its pony car was one of those chords, and the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 provided the rockin' muscle car backbeat. A deft revamp of the original 1967-68 body shell created unique styling used for just this season. Good thing the '69s were so interesting. As it turned out, they had to be carried into the '70 model year when production problems delayed the introduction of the fully redesigned next generation Camaro.  Musclecars.howstuffworks.com For consignment, a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS tribute with a title verified 16,637 actual miles. This one is housing a 383ci stroker engine that was reworked in 2025 according to our consignor. Exterior Now wearing a two stage version of the car's original color, you can't call Palomino Ivory white, it really is a true iteration of ivory, accentuated here by black features that include a nose stripe that trails back as a diminishing side spear, complemented by the black vinyl top and black rear fascia framing the two part tail lights under an upright spoiler. Faux hood vents add some sporty aggression while SS emblems pay tribute and a 383 badge reveals the power source. Naturally, the 14-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels are ideal in profile and mud flaps front and rear keep the lower panels clean. Imperfections here include chipping paint on the front SS grille emblem and a crack in the plastic surround, some spotting on the stainless on the window sill, a slight separation of the vinyl top at the C-pillar, a rust colored crack and staining in the stiffening folds near the trunk, panel and door edge chips and some bubbles, and some rock chips on the front apron. Interior Standard black vinyl door panels host the window crank, arm rest, and door opener and both present cleanly. Black vinyl also dresses the front buckets and rear bench and all of it is in great shape with the exception of a seam split on the passenger upper. A Grant GT steering wheel fronts the dash and shares the column with a Sun Super Tach somewhat obscuring our view of the standard, silver faced gauges. A Jegs triple pack has been added below the dash and the center stack is gussied up with a woodgrain faceplate surrounding the vent lever panel and AM/FM/Cassette radio. More woodgrain adorns the center console which houses a B&M shifter over black loop carpet. The stitched black headliner is in good shape and while up here, we note some cracks in the weatherstrip. The trunk is clean with black carpet over the stamped steel. Drivetrain A bit of chrome dresses up the 383ci stroker V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor fitted with aluminum cylinder heads and mated to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that routes power to the 12 bolt rear axle. Headers, power brakes and power steering are noted. Undercarriage Generally clean with some typical surface rust and a touch of residual oil on the pans. The dual exhaust comes from the headers and finds Xlerator mufflers before extending to the back and exiting behind the rear bumper. We have power disc brakes up front and power drums in back with suspension consisting of coil springs up front and leaf springs in back. Drive-Ability A prime of the carb, a turn of the key, and we're off in this ivory pony car, over the test loop with a nice sounding exhaust, plenty of power on hand, straight tracking, and very fine braking. It does everything well and all functions on board operate as expected. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. Handsome and understated, this SS tribute is just a really nice, solid car with plenty of get up and go. There's no pressure around here, but we do want to let you know that 1968 Camaros are very popular and are consistent sel
