Seller's Notes

1966 Chevrolet Impala SS 2 Door Hardtop In celebration of their 50th year of production, Chevrolet introduced the Impala. Designs were changing, moving away from traditional tail fins being replaced by deep sculpted rear panels, dual headlamps, larger greenhouse passenger compartments, and upgrades in suspension and engine options. Interior finishes such as color keyed door panels, and brushed aluminum began at this time as well. In generations one through three, styling got sleeker, passenger compartments lower, and emphasis was on a look of a car in motion, even when it was sitting still. For consignment, a 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS 2 door hardtop showing 95,816 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a title exemption. Aside from the fact that this is a real two owner SS, it was also worked on by Petty's Garage and tuned on Petty's chassis dyno. The garage closed in 2025 making this SS one of the last cars to come out of that hallowed garage.  Exterior Artesian Turquoise, code KK, presents in survivor, single stage condition, coating the enormous panels with various shades and a bit of patina, and when mated with black 17-inch Wheelsmith wheels that give a poverty wheel feel, presents as the ultimate SS sleeper. Black side molding travels the length of the car, all 213 inches, and is framed in polished trim that runs parallel to the rocker trim, itself forming a visual connection between the wheel opening trim. The chrome bumpers are in great shape and the original dealer badge is still in place on the decklid. Imperfections include numerous paint chips throughout, surface rust and bubbling around the rear window trim, dull or discolored areas of paint, rough mud repair on front fender, rust bubbling on bottom edge, a blemish in the rear bumper, more filler on the right rear quarter panel, some deterioration of the wheel opening trim, a long scuff on the side, and the lower front bumper show scuffs as well.   Interior Black vinyl door cards have a handsome stitched design and host the cranks for the window and vent window, and both doors are in great shape. The driver's black vinyl bucket seat has seen better days and has numerous big rips. The passenger seat and rear bench are in nice shape though we note the package shelf shows some fading and exposure. Black and silver dominate the front starting with the steering wheel with chipped collar fronting a horizontal speedometer to 120mph, flanked by a fuel gauge and clock. To the right, an AM radio is present, and a triple Stewart Warner gauge cluster has been added below, under the metal mid panel that takes in the vent and heat control levers, all in very good condition. The center console is especially fresh looking with a brushed aluminum face plate and a T-shaped metallic shifter and it's offset to the left to be close to the driver. Black carpet covers the floor, the headliner is clean and intact, and the trunk has a fitted, carpeted mat over a clean floor with some surface rust.  Drivetrain Here's where the real show begins! Petty's masters rebuilt the 327ci V8 under the hood, rated at 275 horsepower and wearing an AED Holley 4-barrel over an Edelbrock intake. It's mated to a Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission routing power to the 10 bolt rear axle. According to our consignor, Petty's garage put on a larger radiator and a H.O. water pump. Documentation from the build will be included with the car which has power steering and power brakes. Visually, the bright orange engine presents spotlessly. Undercarriage Some work was done under here as RideTech tubular suspension accompanies the four corner coil overs. Power brakes are on board as front disc and rear drum and our tires have an early 2023 date code. Dual exhaust runs through stainless steel mufflers exiting through tips that peak out under the bumper. While on the life, we note some advanced surface rust under the doors and in pinch welds.  Drive-Ability Petty's Garage is r
