Not so long ago, a typical Buick buyer was the sort of oldster likely to bend your ear about what it was like to grow up in the Golden Age of Radio. Today, Buick is successfully targeting a generation whose members don’t remember life before the internet. Buick boasted how comfortable and exceedingly quiet the car is, and indeed, it isolates road imperfections and allows for a pair of low talkers to converse in subdued tones. The big Buick sedan's low-effort steering will also satisfy the nice and easy tastes of all drivers. The best way to describe driving the LaCrosse is "unwaveringly pleasant."
GM's fine 3.6-liter V6, now making an impressive 310 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque. It's mated to a new eight-speed automatic. The engine was designed with start/stop technology, as opposed to that capability being added, and it shows, as it's nearly invisible. Gets an EPA-estimated 20 city mpg and 29 mpg highway. HID headlamps, LED taillamps, Advanced safety features like forward collision auto brake, and blind spot warning. The cabin is simple and elegant, modern and functional, with a flowing dashboard and floating center console that make it feel airy inside. Moving down the gradually cascading center stack, the LaCrosse introduces a new electronic shifter that frees up the high center console for conveniently placed cupholders, a dedicated smartphone slot, and an under console storage area of questionable utility. Features a unique shift pattern that requires the driver to move it up toward Neutral, then left to reach Reverse. There's an eight-inch touchscreen on the dash that's treated to resist fingerprints. It uses the latest version of GM's IntelliLink infotainment, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. On Star with 4G LTE connectivity. Buick calls its sound-deadening engineering Quiet Tuning. There's a lower mass but more effective insulation material, a quieter engine, acoustic wheelhouse liners, active noise cancellation, triple door seals, and an acoustic laminated windshield and front side windows. It all works well to create a very quiet cabin. GM's HiPer strut front suspension, two mode adaptive dampers, the HiPer strut suspension reduces torque steer and increases grip, while the larger wheels might stiffen the ride because the sidewalls are shorter, but that's what the adaptive dampers are supposed to prevent. There's also a new five-link independent rear suspension that makes the ride smoother and cornering more confident, compared to the previous four-link. LaCrosse is only a fraction of an inch longer and wider, but the wheelbase is 2.7 inches longer, giving it the stance of an all-wheel-drive car. The trunk volume is 15 cubic feet, a good size. Brand new LaCrosse floor mats, freshly tinted windows, 20-inch wheels with brand new tires.
