85,424 miles
1967 Pontiac Firebird Hardtop A powerful rival for Ford Mustang, the Pontiac Firebird saw daylight in 1967 when the US company rolled out both the 2 door coupe and the 2 door convertible. Even as it was based on the same platform as the Chevrolet Camaro, the Firebirds were different both in design and powertrain options. In 1969, a high performance and visually enhanced version of the Firebird was released with 689 Trans Ams joining the 87,000 Firebirds on the assembly line.   For consignment, a 1967 Pontiac Firebird hardtop with a title verified 85,425 actual miles. This first year bird is a very original car with one repaint in the 90's and according to our consignor, came from Arizona. That's even better than California because there are no damp coastal areas in the Grand Canyon state! Exterior One respray of Regimental Red, retained in single stage application, covers this pony car and reaches all the way back to the rear fascia to surround the slit style tail lights. Up front, this pre Endura nose is all chrome surrounding the dual headlight like spectacles and coming to the characteristic Pontiac beaked point in the center. Long before the screaming chicken would appear, a bird depicted in more Native American motif adorns the car, appearing on both front fenders and the gas tank door in back.14-inch wheels where PMD branded wheel covers, rather pedestrian for a sporty car, and the 215/70R14 white wall tires have an early 2022 date code. Imperfections include paint chips, scuffs, scratches, orange peel, a tops surface stain, curb rash on the wheel covers, surface rust and peeling paint on rear valance, and peeling paint on the lower character line.               Interior Our consignor states the interior is original and we've got no reason to doubt that. Parchment vinyl and plastic form shapes and an armrest under a black painted header and above a carpeted kick panel and both doors show some age and cracking. Slight patina appears on the driver's bucket seat including some uncovered piping while the back bench and passenger bucket are in good overall condition. The rim of the three spoked steering wheel is wrapped in an aftermarket vinyl cover and caps a column that leads to the cluster, including a 120 mph speedometer and fuel gauge with idiot lights, backed by a black faceplate. The center stack pops in color with faux woodgrain coverage and is home to an A/C control panel, an AM/FM radio, and the requisite ashtray. Foreshadowing some wild rides, Pontiac supplies the passenger with a handle above the glovebox to maintain vertical stability while giggling with delight. A handsome shifter lives in the center console over black loop carpet, all under a perforated parchment headliner in nice shape. The trunk is barren and clean and painted with the period spatter pattern. Drivetrain Under the hood is a clean, period correct 326ci V8, rated at 250 horsepower and fueled by a 2-barrel carburetor. Behind it, a Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission sends power to the 10 bolt axle with 2.93 gears. The car has air conditioning, power brakes, and power steering. Undercarriage The underside is clean and is host to a single exhaust system that runs through a stainless steel muffler before terminating behind the bumper. Power drum brakes are at all four wheels and suspension consists of coil springs in front and leaf springs in back. Drive-Ability Fifty nine years old and still providing a very nice driving experience in typical 60's fashion. Good power, straight tracking, and power assisted braking. Not bad for an old bird! We note the horn is weak and the A/C is not working but all other functions on this pampered Poncho continue to operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. If you've read this far, we know you have
