1959 Triumph TR3

With their head-turning styling, open air and involving driving experience and fun soundtrack, a classic British roadster certainly has its charms. Their compact dimensions and cut-down doors add to these car's nimble nature and in-touch-with-the-outdoors fun factor.

Here we have a 1959 Triumph TR3 that boasts an older restoration that still presents very well. Look closely and you'll see an arrow-straight and rock-solid body with beautiful black paint and excellent chrome/stainless-steel bumpers and trim. Other highlights include a new convertible top (not yet installed), real knock-off wire wheels and auxiliary fog/driving lights.

Inside, there's tan leather upholstery that shows minor wear but is still very presentable. A "Banjo" steering wheel, chrome passenger grab bar and wooden shift knob add to the car's cheeky, old-school personality. Full gauges fill the dash while an aftermarket center console/armrest provides a single cup holder.

Under the long bonnet is the original 2.0-liter inline four that's been very well maintained and comes with service/maintenance records. It makes around 100 horsepower which may not sound like a lot nowadays but was impressive back then for an engine of just 2 liters (120 cubic inches) displacement. And with the TR3 weighing only around 2,000 pounds -- a thousand pounds less than a new Civic! -- it provides peppy performance. It sends the power to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual gearbox with the rare electric overdrive option.

Out on the road, the TR3 runs and drives great, with the easy-shifting stick adding to the fun. The overdrive gear makes for more relaxed, lower-rpm cruising when on the highway while the car's light weight, low-slung stance and manual steering/brakes make for an enjoyable drive on your favorite twisty backroads.
