Oh, the places you will go and the cash you will save to get there when you get behind the wheel of Scion’s smartest car- the Scion iQ. Slightly bigger than a roller skate, with a perky impish face. The manufacturer claims it is the world's smallest four-seater.
The bird's eye view elicits giggles. Front and rear ends have a slight smile. The hood is non-existent at that angle, making the windshield appear four times its size. Each bumper has raised arcs at the corners that point down toward the ground. Power from the 1.3-liter dual-overhead camshaft, four valves per cylinder, and dual-variable-valve timing 4-cylinder engine to the wheels, automatic transmission, front wheel drive, and fuel economy is 36 mpg city, 37 mpg highway. iQ has all the requisite front, knee, front side, and curtain airbags. Tilt steering, the center position of the gauges is said to have a safety benefit, as you're not taking your eyes quite as far off the road, and I noticed that it might indeed be true. Another nice touch of having the gauges in the center of the dash is that the panel is not shrouded at all by the steering wheel. Power windows, power door locks, and dual power mirrors. The HVAC controls are wonderfully simple and elegant, and they are positioned well. An attention-getting, triangle-shaped surround from which the electronic controls rise gives a Jetson's feel to the cabin. Premium 6-speaker Pioneer audio system with AM/FM/CD/MP3/HD radio, Bluetooth wireless, USB ports, iPod connectivity, speed-sensitive steering, and auxiliary audio input. There are dual auxiliary inputs, so you can interface directly with your iPod, via a specific jack, or you can use another flavor of player via the 1/8" mini jack. Once you do manage to figure out the Pioneer's control scheme, it's not difficult to operate. Luggage space behind the seats is nil, at 3.5 cubic feet. With the seat-and-a-half folded down, this expands to a satisfactory 16.7 cubic feet. Anti-lock brakes (drums in the rear) and stability and traction control are standard. A short wheelbase normally means bounce and jounce, but the suspension engineers have provided a surprisingly smooth ride. The suspension system consists of a rear compact torsion beam suspension and a MacPherson front strut suspension. Brand new iQ floor mats, tinted windows, painted alloy wheels with brand new tires. The Scion iQ is a highly maneuverable, reliable city car celebrated for its ability to park in tiny spaces, earning 83% recommendation from Kelley Blue Book owners. Easy to park, reliable (Toyota-built), stylish design, excellent tight-space handling. It is ideal for urban driving.
