From the mad scientists behind the infamous 250mph SledgeHammer comes this 2008 Callaway C16, a 650 horse C6-based, bespoke sports car.
Callaway is a well-known OEM tuner from the 90s and 90s who eventually specialized in Corvettes, with factory-backed performance packages that pushed Bowling Green’s pride and joy to super car status. The original SledgeHammer was the ultimate summation of their efforts, making nearly 900hp which pushed the Corvette platform to over 250 mph, making it essentially the fastest new car in the world at the time. They continued to bring their expertise to the Corvette platform by developing bespoke versions that rebodied the cars with unique panels and reworked the chassis with various performance upgrades.
For the C16, which was based on the C6 generation (2005 - 2013) of Corvettes, the reimagining included 10-way adjustable coil-overs (on compression and rebound) with a mild rate increase over stock thanks to the Eibach springs. At all four corners are Callaway-spec brakes with six-piston calipers up front and four-piston units out back, with magnesium-carbon wheels from Dymag – staggered 19s up front and 20s in back. The current owner purchased a set of stock wheels with fresh Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires for a road trip without putting wear and tear on the mag-carbon pieces, but both are included in the sale.
Outside, the Callaway C16 wears unique body work, really only sharing the glass with the Corvette. Overall, it’s a streamlined machine that makes the average person scratch their head on what it is, while still being a dead-nuts reliable Chevrolet underneath. Once you find the hidden door poppers and sit inside, you’ll find that Callaway also reupholstered the C6 with leather and alcantara, with several embossed touches throughout celebrating the Callaway C16.
Under the hood is where the bulk of Callaway’s efforts are placed, with their crew rebuilding the LS3 for boost with a different top end – heads, cam, and intake – to prepare it for the Magnuson supercharger’s 10psi of boost.
Here at Car Cave, we gave this Callaway some love so that its current owner could use it for a road trip, including new spark plugs and wires, the aforementioned stock wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, an oil change, wiper blades, and various interior fixes to ensure that it's ready to keep churning miles comfortably. This Callaway also comes with all of its collector and maintenance documentation.
If you’re looking for something a little different and exclusive, but without the mechanical headaches that come with some rare cars, this Callaway C16 will check all your boxes.
