1998 Audi A4 Sedan Since its introduction in 1995, the A4 has been near the top of our Cars We Would Recommend to a Friend list. Its refinement level is up there with big German sedans costing twice as much, and it has earned a place on our Ten Best list for 1996 and 1997. All things considered, the A4 feels like a lot of car for the money. The A4, along with the all new A8 and the upcoming A6, have given Audi a second wind in the luxury car race, and sales figures reflect this. Car and Driver, Sept. 1997 For consignment, a 1998 Audi A4 sedan showing 115,848 miles, but true miles are unknown. This car had a recent timing belt change as well as water pump and tensioner. Exterior Two stage Pearlescent White paint adorns this round edged car, a shade of white with a slight champagne undertone and a great base for the contrasting black B-pillar. Beyond that pillar however, is a car that is monochromatically coated with the color spilling onto the smooth, rounded bumper covers that likely perform well in a wind tunnel. Projector beam headlights keep the car relevant and the iconic four rings fronts the grille. Door handles and side mirrors adhere to the palette and tinted windows really play well here, and we'll include the sunroof in that assessment. The 16-inch wheels carry 55 series tires with an early 2025 date code. Imperfections include various chips, scuffs, scratches, and cracks, numerous but all fairly minor. There's some curb rash and bubbling in the paint of the wheels and some heavy use marks by the door handle that a bit of polishing compound can remedy. It appears the hood is a different shade than the body. Interior In typical German fashion, the Audi's interior is handsome and efficient and the brand does not skimp on the leather, first serving as inserts on the charcoal plastic door panels with a dark wood trim piece which we fully expect to see again on the dash. The driver's arm pad and switch panel show some patina but the other three doors present very nicely. The same could be said about the Bone colored leather seats where the driver's show the most use and the others are more fresh with waves of tufts that give it a rich look. A leather wrapped steering wheel gives way to a black faced instrument cluster with neatly arranged gauges and crisp white numbering. And here's our wood accenting, stretching across the dash and framing the center stack and its row of toggles, AM/FM/Cassette radio and A/C panel with red digital readout, all in good condition. A reflective trim plate surrounds the shifter in the center console over tan carpet that shows some use in places and is protected by weather mats. Up above, the headliner presents nicely although the skin of the sunroof cover is loose. Drivetrain Completely shrouded is the 2.8 liter DOHC V6 under the hood, putting out 190 horsepower, fuel injected, and mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic. This AWD version sends power through 3.73 gears at both ends of the car. Undercarriage Driver quality conditions underneath with the typical surface rust and oxidation as well as some residual oil about. The dual exhaust flows through original equipment mufflers and exits at twin pipes out back. Four wheel power disc brakes are on board and suspension is independent at both ends with coil springs at the helm and multi link out back. Drive-Ability The Audi provides a surefooted ride around the test loop with plenty of power underfoot, great ergonomics, and comfortable seats. We note the check engine light is on and have provided the codes in the photos. Beyond that, all functions on this perfectly sized sedan operate as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. When is a daily driver special enough to be part of our inventory? When it's a desirable A4 sedan, of course! Every
