1996 Ford Mustang GT Coupe Now that the year old redesign of the Ford Mustang has some miles on it, both Ford and the Mustang's obsessed clientele are ready for a few important changes. A Mustang Cobra making more than 300 hp is certainly welcome. And finally banished from the '96 Mustang GT is the ancient overhead valve 5.0 liter V8, which-in various guises-has powered Mustangs since their inception. Certain purists may wail and gnash their teeth over this one, but it's a transition we like. Car and Driver, September 1995 For consignment, a 1996 Ford Mustang GT with a title verified 59,910 actual miles. Here's a mostly stock, clean white coupe that can get you into the world of specialty cars overnight, and you don't have to mortgage the house to do so! Exterior A wash in Crystal White, this one is even complemented by white Bullitt style wheels with polished rims that pick up on the GT emblem on the fenders and the chrome floating horse in the grille. Out back, the tail light housing is also white, and the lenses have been configured vertically for '96, returning to something more akin to Mustang heritage and Ford learned its lesson as the lights have never veered from their upright stance since. Mustang GT is embossed on the rear bumper and meaty exhaust tips emerge from underneath. The front bumper cover is unmarred by a license plate and the roof is slick, all making for a very clean ride. Imperfections include various chips, flaking paint where the C-pillar connects with the body and on the license plate box, flex cracks in the bumper covers, and touched up scratches. Interior Two tone plastic formed door panels include black over saddle and a carpeted insert next to an embedded speaker and all have held up well. Inside, tall saddle cloth bucket seats occupy the front and remain fresh as does the rear 2+2. A leather wrapped steering wheel presents nicely, fronting the black over saddle dashboard, basic gauge cluster ahead, and A/C with an aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio in the center stack. The black plastic of the dash cascades down to form the base for the shifter which gives way to the saddle color molded center console over tan carpet. It's all tidy, simple and gloriously analogue. Gray cloth cover panels dress the trunk and present in near pristine condition. Drivetrain Under the hood you'll find the 4.6 liter SOHC V8 with factory iron block and aluminum heads, rated at 215 horsepower and set into motion by a Tremec T45 5-speed manual transmission sending power to the Ford 8.8 rear axle with 3.27 gears and Tracloc. The bay presents cleanly and shows a K&N cold air intake system. Undercarriage There are typical signs of age and use, primarily exhibiting as surface rust underneath, but generally a very clean underside. Here we have aftermarket exhaust flowing from headers in the engine bay to MagnaFlow mufflers after an X-pipe, then terminating at aftermarket and polished tips the size of tree trunks. Power disc brakes are supplied to all four wheels and suspension includes coil springs front and rear with a 4 link out back. Drive-Ability You can't find much fault with these punchy ponies and their tossable size; it's pretty obvious why millions have been sold over the years. It essentially does everything well from acceleration to handling to stopping, and this sounds particularly good doing it! We find the A/C is not working but all other functions work as they should and we gallop this white steed back to the stable. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase. A great little package. A 5-speed V8 with a back seat for the kids, a sizable trunk for groceries or trophies, and a clean white exterior over spotless camel guts. Pound for pound, one of the best performance car bargains of the year! 1FALP42X1TF187010 1-USA F-Ford Motor Company A-Pa
