The 1932 Ford, known universally as the Deuce, is the car that started hot rod culture. When Ford introduced it during the depths of the Great Depression, it was the first affordable car ever offered with a V8 engine, and builders have been using it as their canvas ever since. The Phaeton body style is the rarest of the bunch. Ford built just 5,251 of them worldwide in 1932, and the open four-door design with its long, flowing lines has never gone out of style. This Phantom Phaeton is a purpose-built custom on a tubular steel frame with a fiberglass body and a lift-off fiberglass hardtop, meaning it was designed from the start to be exactly what it is, a modern hot rod built around one of the greatest shapes in automotive history. Finished in two-tone blue and white, it is as sharp and clean as they come.
Under the hood is a 350 cubic inch V8 backed by a TH350 three speed automatic. The Edelbrock four barrel carburetor sits up top, and a V-Force exhaust gives it the sound a car like this deserves. The chassis is built the way a serious custom should be, with independent front suspension, coilover shocks out back, and a triangulated four-bar rear suspension that keeps everything planted and sorted. Weld Racing wheels are a perfect fit for a build with this level of attention to detail.
Inside, the light blue leather seats are clean and well done against a blue dash with custom striping and white gauges across the face. A white and stainless steel steering wheel, white dice hanging from the mirror, and a Pioneer stereo round out a cabin that is personal, cohesive, and finished all the way through. Every detail in this car was thought about.
The 1932 Ford's place in American culture runs deep. The Beach Boys wrote Little Deuce Coupe about one. It starred in American Graffiti. Bruce Springsteen referenced it in Blinded by the Light. No other car in history has been as central to the hot rod world for as long, and clean Phantom Phaetons built with this level of craftsmanship are exactly what serious collectors and show-goers are looking for.
