Subaru updated the 2018 model with: revised grille, front bumper, headlights, and front body cladding. It also upgraded some interior features, the infotainment system with a larger screen and more tech options. The Outback is powered by a 3.6L horizontally-opposed 6-cylinder, which generates 256 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque. It drives all four wheels through a continuously variable automatic transmission, which has steering-wheel-mounted buttons to emulate a six-speed manually shifted transmission when the driver desires. It has abundant Power (unlike the base 2.5L 4-cylinder model) and offers immediate, lag-free acceleration for highway passing and mountain driving. When tested on the track it sprinted to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds, a significant 2.5 seconds quicker than the flat-four's time of 9.4 seconds. The fuel economy is at aprox 21mpg City and 28mpg Hwy.
