Seller's Notes

1965 Pontiac GTO Hardtop It happens every time. A guy goes out and gets a genuine tiger, a Pontiac GTO that is, and guess who suddenly loves cats. Frankly, Pontiac didn't intend for GTO to stand for 'Girls Take Over' but it's something you tiger owners have to guard against. Sure, ladies love to pop around to luncheons and go shopping in a GTO, and why wouldn't they? It's so comfortable and beautiful and easy handling. But he knows a Pontiac GTO is really built for threading curves on its redline tires or slamming its Hurst floor shifter into gear and powering up hills with four barrel carburetion and 335 horsepower. From a GTO television commercial. For consignment, a 1965 Pontiac GTO with 487 miles since its frame off restoration approximately 13 years ago. It has a date correct drivetrain and comes to you with PHS documentation and the Protect-0-Plate.  Exterior There may be a million different colors applied to cars, but this two stage Bluemist Slate Poly had everyone stopping in their tracks. It's as if blue, white, and silver were combined to create a stunning color that suits the GTO well and blends nicely with the chrome bumpers, the polished trim and the 14-inch Pontiac Rally 1 wheels. It's those wheels and their red striped tires and red topped lug nuts that create the only discernible contrast and does so in a tasteful and certainly show worthy way. In back, the tail lights are configured in a full width of ribbed trim that Pontiac would be synonymous with, the lights themselves camouflaged by the design. Up front, it's stacked headlights and mirroring grilles capped by the arrowhead on the nose. Twin nostrils on the hood scoop are subtle enough to be overlooked but cool enough to be epic and help define this legend, almost as much as the twin chrome splitters out back. You have to look close, but imperfections include a waviness to one edge, scratches and a ding in the polished window trim, a bubble in the plating on the taillight panel trim, minor imperfections on some wheel and rocker trim, and a few small bubbles on the door.  Interior No need for flash on the inside but the stitch patterns on the black vinyl doors, turned diagonal on the front bucket seats is sporty enough for the time and the embossed arrowhead on both the front and back seats was Pontiac's stamp of pride; there was no hiding that they created something special. Up front, your black steering wheel fronts round gauges in a woodgrain faceplate along with a vent control panel and AM radio and it's all in very nice condition. The passenger gets a grab handle but the driver lucks out with a ball handled Hurst shifter in the center console, itself referencing the ribbed pattern in back on black plastic, and it looks great. Black carpet below, arrowhead mats, a perforated headliner above with one small hole, and a clean trunk with both a carpet mat and plaid vinyl mat complete our tour of this show ready interior.  Drivetrain Under the hood, the blue blocked 389ci V8 was produced on May 8th, 1965 and is topped by Tri-Power, three two-barrel carbs. It's backed by a correct Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission and power is routed to the rear XK code 10-bolt with 3.90 gears and Safe-T-Track, although the PHS documentation denotes the axle to be equipped with 3.55 gears and Safe-T-Track. It's clean in the bay, and the car is equipped with power brakes and power steering.  Undercarriage Other than a few errant drops of clean oil, we would call the condition of the underside showroom fresh and super clean. The dual exhaust runs through stock style mufflers then splits to the outside to exit through chrome splitter behind each rear wheel. Power drum brakes are at all four wheels and suspension includes coil springs front and rear with a 4link in back. Drive-Ability Does it run as good as it looks? People have been asking that question since we gave up horses, and in fact, this car delivers on all levels, from power and accele
