Seller's Notes

This 1940 International D-2 Woody Station Wagon is an absolutely stunning classic pre-war truck that has benefited from a comprehensive frame-off restoration. With history dating back to the mid-19th century, International Harvester began producing its first automobiles, known as Auto-Wagons, in 1907. These early IHC Auto-Wagons were, in a sense, light-duty trucks that seemed to complement the company's agricultural implement business. By 1913, International opted to focus its vehicle manufacturing operations solely on truck production. By 1929, International was America's largest truck producer sitting only below Ford and Chevrolet. The following year, International rebranded its model designations to the letter series with the new A-Series which turned into the B-Series in 1933. With the introduction of the C-Series in 1934, International began adding a bit of style into its light duty offerings, now featuring a bright v-type aluminum grille and slanted windshield. In October of 1939, International Harvester debuted the 1940 D-Series models to replace the previous C-Series and the new D Trucks were especially stylish for the time. Notable features were a V-type windshields, curvy pontoon fenders and overall outstanding body lines. Yet, despite the great looks of International Harvester's D-Series trucks, International's standing began to slip amongst America's largest truck producers having been overtaken by Dodge for the first time. One small segment of International's light-duty truck production was its Woody station wagons which were produced by a variety of custom coachbuilders such as M.P. Moller Inc., Baker-Raulang, and Burkett. These custom built 'suburban' station wagons were used in the commercial context as taxis and school busses, and they were used privately for standard family transportation. This particular International Woody Wagon comes to us with southern history after a comprehensive frame-off restoration was undertaken under previous ownership. Powering this International Harvester D-2 is 213 cubic inch L-Head inline 6 cylinder engine that breathes through a single barrel carburetor, together producing 78 horsepower when new. The 213 flathead 6 is mated to a 3 speed manual transmission that is shifted via a floor mounted shifter. Exhaust exits this International's workhorse power plant via a single exhaust port that features a chrome-tipped tailpipe. Despite the International D-2 being a commercial vehicle, this particular example comes absolutely loaded with options! Up front, a pair of amber-lens fog lamps sit atop an optional chrome bumper that together elevate the front end look of this gorgeous truck. Riding on a set of wide whitewall tires mounted on red-painted steel wheels that are accented with chrome beauty rings and chrome hubcaps, this 1940 International has a truly classic look whether you're parked at the local classic truck show or cruising down the road. Additionally, a side-mounted matching spare tire is another option that is both utilitarian and also adds even more upscale flair. Assisting with parking efforts and the occasional lane change is a driver's side outside mirror that greatly improves your visibility down the side of this Woody. The tail end of this D-2 Woody is capped off with an optional chrome rear bumper as well as a pair of optional taillights and turn signals that have a great look and give the truck a more modern look and feel. The all-steel body has been refinished in International Creme paint that accents the black vinyl roof and outstanding wooden coachwork that complete the exterior appearance of this truck. The interior of this 1940 International D-2 Woody Station Wagon is equally stunning! Passengers can ride in 3 rows of bench seats that have been re-covered in period-correct Tan upholstery. The wooden coachwork extends to the interior cabin of this International D-2 Woody, seen in side panelling, door panels, tailgate, and even on the
