The Wood & Pickett (1978)
For the discerning 1970s buyer, Wood & Pickett took the rugged, utilitarian Range Rover and transformed it into a bespoke, high-end luxury vehicle. [1, 2, 3]
The Front-End Conversion: The most recognizable feature of these conversions was the custom front grille. Customers could choose from a canted-back black slotted grille that covered the headlights or a front-end utilizing parts from the Rover SD1 (complete with SD1 headlights and fog lights). [1, 2, 3]
Ultra-Luxe Interiors: The cabins featured extensive upgrades, including rich leather upholstery, walnut wood veneer trim, Recaro seats, and a completely re-trimmed, extended dashboard. Period-specific luxuries like center console cocktail cabinets, chest fridges, and car phones were available. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Exterior Options: The vehicles could be outfitted with Wolfrace alloy wheels, roof racks, nudge bars, and flared wheel arches. [1, 2]
Custom Bodystyles: While based on the standard Range Rover, Wood & Pickett offered extreme customizations. Buyers could commission 5-door stretches (years before Land Rover officially released one), convertible/cabriolet tops (often called the Goodwood or Soft-Top), and even 6-wheeled versions. [1, 2, 3]
Mechanics: Most retained the standard Rover V8 engine, though tuning options were available for clients with larger budgets. [1, 2]
