1960 was one of the most significant years in Chevrolet truck history. The Apache arrived on a completely new platform with a dropped-center ladder frame that brought the cab seven inches lower than the generation it replaced, along with independent front suspension that changed how these trucks drove entirely. It was a truck that looked modern, felt modern, and moved the segment forward in a single step. The Apache name itself only lasted from 1958 through 1961 before GM replaced it with the simpler C-10 designation, making the 1960 and 1961 models the final two years to carry that badge. A complete and well-presented Apache 10 from 1960 is considered a genuine rarity by collectors today, with only two model years of production to draw from. This one is finished in Tartan Turquoise with a white top and white bumpers, one of the most striking two-tone combinations of the era, and it has been built out with a level of thoughtfulness that shows everywhere you look.
Under the hood is a 350 cubic inch V8 backed by a 700R4 automatic overdrive transmission, a combination that gives this truck the power and driveability of a modern build inside one of the most iconic bodies of the late 1950s. It cruises comfortably at highway speeds and pulls with the kind of easy confidence that makes these trucks so enjoyable to spend time in.
Inside, the white and grey cloth and leather bench seat is clean and comfortable, set against a custom center console that adds a finished, personal touch the factory never offered. Dolphin gauges give the dash a clean, modern read on everything under the hood, and the modern retro stereo handles the audio while keeping the period feel of the interior intact. The wooden bed finishes the exterior with a detail that is period correct and always draws attention.
The Apache name was borrowed from a proud tradition. Chevrolet used Native American tribal names across their truck lineup during this era, with the Apache covering the light duty trucks, the Viking covering the medium duty trucks, and the Spartan covering the heaviest configurations. The Apache 10 was the entry point of that lineup, and it was the one that connected with everyday buyers across the country in a way that made Chevrolet the top-selling truck brand of the era. A restored example in this color combination is exactly what the classic truck market has been paying close attention to.
