Seller's Notes

1986 Porsche 944 Turbo The peak 944 sales in Europe had been seen during the production of the 1985 model year, but thanks to the US market, model year 1986 became the most successful in the lifespan of the 944 - almost 28,000 cars were produced in a year including more than 10,000 944 Turbos. For 1986, Porsche 944 Turbo Cup series was created in Germany and 944 Challenge in Canada. These were the first Porsche one model racing series, (predecessors of the later 911 racing series). Thx stuttcars.com For consignment, a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo with a title verified 155,988 actual miles. This is a garage kept beauty with an accompanying log book showing all repairs and parts. The design of the 944 is arguably one of the most timeless sports car designs produced in the 80's. Exterior If the design of the 944 is arguably the best, so too is the Guards Red arguably the best color, with which this car was fortunate enough to leave the Neckarsulm assembly plant. The rounded nose, straked intake, and wide front fenders, all seemingly fitted together with mere millimeters of gaps, represent styling cues still used on sports cars today and some of the finest sports cars still utilize pop up headlights, as in this 944. A black pinstripe leads the eyes to the back where the rubberized spoiler comes at the end of the curved hatch glass and over the six part tail lights that sit flush to the corners. The coveted Porsche font is displayed on the rear fascia while bumper guards are attached to the bumper cover that makes room for a single exhaust tip. 16-inch BBS wheels carry 225/50/R16's with a late 2022 date code. Imperfections include lots of touched up rock chips on the front, scuffs, chin scrapes, discoloration near a wheel opening, and a filled ding. All pretty minor considering the car is North of 150k miles. Interior Clean, efficient, and snug door panels begin the sea of black for the interior, which spills onto the leather bucket seats where a driver's cover is in nice shape and the passenger leather shows some wear but is intact. The suggested 2+2 seats in the back are in great condition owing to the fact that very few people have actually ventured back there. Minor patina is on the steering wheel and shifter while the black plastic backed dash is in excellent shape, housing four dials now lit by LEDs, behind a Plexiglas window and black switchgear along the straight mid panel. Below the dash, a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio with Bluetooth resides over storage and toggles, just before the console cascades down to the stout shifter in a continuous black boot. Porsche mats protect the clean black carpet below and black plastic covers the headliner and sunroof. The storage area under the hatch and the black carpet covering it are in very nice condition. Drivetrain Fitting like a puzzle piece in the bay is the 2.5 liter turbocharged four cylinder, rated at 220 horsepower and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Power is routed to the rear axle and 3.37 gearing while power disc brakes are employed on all four wheels. The bay has been kept clean and just like the rest of the car, you would probably go low if asked to guess the mileage. According to our consignor, new belts, hoses, and fluids are here as well as a newer Optima battery. Undercarriage As usual, the underside shows a bit more age than the topside with road dirt, soot, minimal surface rust, general patina, and a bit of residual oil on the transaxle. New shocks accompany the independent suspension and a new muffler is mounted to the single exhaust after it has merged from the manifold outlet pipe and turbo downpipe. A chrome tip that extends past the rear valance dresses up the exhaust. Drive-Ability An analog Porsche from the 80's in Guards Red? Count us in! And count us gone, as we shift this into first gear and run this stealthy 2+2 onto the test loop where it provides no surprises. She tracks well, handles on rails, and has plenty of power underfo
