1964 Chevrolet Impala SS "Esperanza"
Rolling Art Collection | Award-Winning Custom | MotorTrend Featured Build

Overview

This 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS, known as "Esperanza," is an award-winning custom build that blends classic Chevrolet styling with contemporary artistic expression. Finished in a distinctive custom coral exterior and powered by a rebuilt 350ci Chevrolet V8, Esperanza combines show-quality presentation with street-driven usability.

Created as Nicole Fonseca's personal project, Esperanza features custom 20-inch Chroma three-piece wheels with copper detailing, a black original-style interior with a new silver leather headliner, air ride hydraulics, and hand-painted artwork that transforms this Impala into a true rolling work of art. More than a restored classic, Esperanza represents Nicole's creative vision brought to life through automotive craftsmanship and contemporary visual art.

The Creators Behind Esperanza

Esperanza was conceived and curated by Nicole Fonseca, a female Mexican-American automotive designer whose vision guided the vehicle's overall theme, color palette, and artistic direction. The custom coral finish became the foundation of the project, reflecting Nicole's desire to create a vehicle that celebrates individuality, culture, optimism, and self-expression.

To bring that vision to life, Nicole collaborated with contemporary Mexican-American artist Humberto Cruz, whose vibrant artwork appears throughout the vehicle. Known for his bold use of color, playful imagery, and pop-culture-inspired visual style, Cruz hand-painted the roof and incorporated artistic elements that give Esperanza its unmistakable identity.

Together, their collaboration transformed a classic Chevrolet Impala SS into a one-of-one rolling canvas that bridges automotive craftsmanship, contemporary art, and cultural heritage.

The Story of Esperanza

The name Esperanza, Spanish for "hope," reflects the spirit behind this unique project.

Rather than building a traditional custom car, Nicole Fonseca envisioned a vehicle that would become a platform for creativity, culture, and personal expression. The result is a 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS that combines classic Chevrolet heritage with modern artistic influence.

The custom coral finish established the visual identity of the project and became the centerpiece around which every detail was developed. Custom wheels, copper accents, chrome refinishing, interior upgrades, and artistic details were carefully selected to create a cohesive statement rather than a collection of modifications.

Recognizing the impact that art could have on the project, Nicole partnered with Humberto Cruz, whose distinctive style brought an entirely new dimension to the vehicle. Cruz's colorful artwork transformed Esperanza from a custom Impala into a rolling canvas, blending traditional lowrider influences with contemporary artistic expression.

Inside, the car retains much of its original character while incorporating thoughtful custom to
